This is such a shock -- I just saw Mr Payne on Friday , August 16th when he rolled into Dixie Glass in Orange, dropping off a truck for us to work on , he was full of energy and life as he always was. In the 12 years that I have had the privilege of knowing Mr Payne he was always upbeat and kind to everyone . When I read his Obituary yesterday I was in shock , what? not Mr Payne , my condolences to his family and those he left behind , you will be missed but never forgotten . I pray that God places his arms around your family and comforts them as they grieve your loss Karen B. (Dixie Glass, Orange)

I write this as tears come to me.I was broken hearted at the newsof waylands passing.the most precious moments i keep are the ones at the track or auction, shooting the breeze with him. When i introduced my son to him ,Colin said, man thats a cool guy dad.i like him alot.I want my son to look up to me like everyone looked up to Mr.Payne.Went to rio bravo mx track this saturday with Lenny Darbonne. We rode and talked about my good friend Wayland as if he was there. He was!He was looking down on us from heaven. He will always be in my heart and on my mind, especially when I roost some dirt. My prayers are with you all.I loved him like a father.Like an angel on earth, never a harsh word, only gracefull, soft spoken attention. 2 TIMOTHY 4:6-8 I HAVE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT,I HAVE FINISHED THE RACE.I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH.GOD SPEED MR. What a privilege to call Wayland my "brother"-in-law since I was ten. He was a quiet, peaceful man who seemed to always know what to do in any situation. It's so hard to believe he is no longer with us, but I just know that Norma is rejoicing right now! My love to all of Wayland's family and my nieces and nephews. Love, Aunt Brenda

Wayland was such a dear, sweet man and Norma told us years ago that he had never been angry with her or raised his voice to quarrel. It just wasn't his nature. He was a gentle, kind man, full of life and adventure and always looking for the next best thing. He was our comrade in many businesses and we all enjoyed each other so much. In the 70's Bill and I were shopping for a vehicle to house our five children and ourselves and went to see Wayland at Payne Motor Company in Vinton, Louisiana. He put us in a beautiful large van and we were so excited to drive it home and to have enough room to have everyone of us comfortable and tickled to have gotten such a great deal. The next day Wayland called us and told us that he had made an error and had overcharged us $1000 and would bring us a check for that amount!! Once again he had shown us what a truly great friend he was. It is hard to believe just yet that he isn't here since he was taken so quickly and we will miss him so much. But I believe that he is standing with Norma and his mom and dad in heaven and that someday we will all be together again. Thankyou Wayland for being such a dear man, such a wonderful friend and God bless your family and loved ones. Love you, Bill and Winona
