Theresa Lavergne Richard
Theresa Lavergne Richard, 85, of Bridge City, passed away on January 13, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2021 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Father Ernie Carpio and Deacon Steve Obernuefemann. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m., Sunday, January 17, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. A rosary will be recited Sunday evening. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, January 17, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, on December 15, 1935, she was the daughter of Willie Lavergne and Ida (LeJeune) Lavergne. Theresa enjoyed cooking, long walks, and gardening. She was very intact with her French/Cajun heritage, she loved having big crawfish boils with the family and listening to French music. Theresa was a very compassionate person; she was a caregiver aide at a nursing home. She loved to spend time with friends and reminisce about the good ole days. Theresa was a loving wife of 49 years. She was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Theresa was an amazing wife, mother, “MawMaw”, and will be deeply missed by everyone who came to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Richard; her parents, Willie and Ida Lavergne; her stepmother, Helen “Nan” Fisher; brothers, Hubert Lavergne, Nolton Lavergne, Freeman Lavergne; sisters, Nita Vidrine, and Linda Miller; and great-granddaughter, Brittany Reneé Moore.
She is survived by her son, Rickey Richard (Cheryl); daughters, Faye (Donald) Soileau, Kaye Duhon, Tammie Moore; grandchildren, Nicole Peco, Christie Fitts, Lindsey Shugart, Pennie Touchet, Robert Johnnie, Jessica Johnnie, Danielle Oliver, Brock Duhon, Shane Richard, and Ryan Moore. Along with twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Johnnie, Brock Duhon, Ryan Moore, Shane Richard, Derek Fitts, Reid Peco, and Parker Norwood. Honorary pallbearers are Koby Dean, Case Norwood, Cole Norwood, and Colton Richard.
The family would like to thank Southeast Texas Hospice for their loving care given to their mother during this difficult time.
