Sarah Gelea Bivens

1986 ∼ 2021

Sarah Gelea Bivens, 34, of Vidor, left this earth on August 24th, 2021. She was born on December 29, 1986 to Gary Lynn Powell and Melanie Powell.

Sarah was full of life and loved to laugh. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, and spending time with her family. She committed her life to Christ as a young lady in the Rose City Baptist church youth group and her curiosity and love for God continued throughout her life. Sarah was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Kevin for 16 years. A dedicated mother, she always put her children first and worked hard to provide a life for them. Sarah was a student and had a passion for education. She graduated in the Fall of 2013 with her LVN degree. While lovingly raising her four children, she continued her education and she graduated in the spring of 2021 with her Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences. She was proud and excited to begin her first year of teaching in West Orange.

Sarah is preceded in death by her grandparents, Lonnie and Linda Warren, her uncle Michael Warren, cousins Christopher Warren and Justin Warren, her nephew Jensen Powell, uncle Timothy Powell and grandfather Grant Roosevelt Powell, Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kevin Bivens, parents Gary and Melanie Powell, grandmother Dorothy Powell, brother Cameron Powell and his wife Loren, brother Joseph Powell and his wife Fanci, her four beloved children, Madilyn, Jacob, Cassidy and Liam Bivens. She is also survived by her nephew, Garrett and niece Scarlett; and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles who all loved her very much.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Sarah at First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center in Vidor, TX on Thursday, September 16 at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Autism Speaks, or a local group to help with further research, assistance for children and their families as well as enhance medical treatment going forward for people with Autism.
