A Life Remembered

Obituary

Sarah Todaro Berryman, 76, of Beaumont, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her beautiful smile, kindness, strength, and deep faith touched everyone who knew her.

She was born on December 20, 1949, in Orange, to Frank Jasper and Sarah Lucia Todaro. Her paternal grandparents immigrated from Sicily. Together with her family and four sisters, they owned Save-Way Super Market in Orange. From a young age, Sarah worked in the family grocery store—stocking the shelves, handling orders, painting signs on the glass outside, and creating advertisements for the newspaper. She balanced these responsibilities with her teaching career.

Throughout her life, she remained committed to education and personal growth. She studied at Stephen F. Austin State University, earned her Master’s degree from McNeese State University as a diagnostician, and retired from Region 5. She worked with children with special needs in the West Orange School District before serving as administrator at Evadale ISD. She helped advance the special education program at Evadale, meeting her husband, Billy, through his sister in the process. She also taught at Anderson and North, where she developed a Life Skills program that brought household appliances into the classroom so her students could learn practical daily living skills. A fierce advocate, Sarah fought tirelessly for the rights and well-being of her students, never backing down—even in difficult cases that required court action. She was named Teacher of the Year and served as a dedicated CASA volunteer, advocating for abused and neglected children.

A devout Catholic, Sarah attended St. Mary Elementary and High School in Orange. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange and most recently a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Beaumont. Her faith was central to her life, and she consistently brought others to the Church. Most recently, she served as sponsor for one of her granddaughters’ friends during their conversion to the Catholic faith.

She found joy in caring for her family, especially through cooking and gathering everyone together. Some of her family’s favorite dishes were her spaghetti, lovingly called “SUGA,” eggplant parmesan, and chicken marsala. Sundays after church were especially meaningful, filled with family meals, laughter, and time together.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sarah Todaro; sister, Mary Ann Todaro Scofield; sister, Sendy Todaro O'Keefe and husband, Larry O'Keefe.

She is survived by her loving husband, Billy Berryman; sister, Rosalie Todaro Clark and husband, Judge Pat Clark; sister, Antionette Todaro Peveto and husband, Wayne Peveto; and brother-in-law, John Scofield. She also leaves behind her children, Frank Coffin III and wife, Brandi Coffin; Sarah Fisher and husband, Darrell Fisher; Michael Coffin and wife, Miranda Coffin; Misty Jones and husband, Lance Jones; Wendy Sicola and husband, Vince Sicola. Sarah also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Ava, Margo, Ben, Sarah, Madeline, Joseph, Sophia, Riggs, Brady, Laney, River, Ryann, Sam, Will, and Luke.

In celebration of Sarah's life, a visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at LaBrie Claybar Funeral Services in Beaumont. The rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m., and visitation will resume at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange, officiated by The Reverend Fr. Antony Paulose and Deacon L.D. Keen. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of her caregivers who gave her the best care in her final days.

Sarah truly loved her family, and her family adored her.
