Fishing, vegetable gardening, spending time at the family beach house, traveling around the USA and to Europe, (mainly to Sicily to visit his Meli cousins (American name "Malley") were also some of his other favorite activities. So many wonderful memories of Sammy and Carmen since I met them in 1980. A funny story, one day I went to see Carmen and I approached their driveway and saw 2 feet sticking out from under the car. I deduced someone was under the car changing the oil. Presuming it was Sammy, I said, “Hey Sammy is Carmen in the house?” Carmen rolled out from under the car and said, “Sammy doesn’t change the oil, I do!” She added “He’s probably inside drinking iced tea, watching a ball game!”

I worked with Sam for several years in the Beaumont office of Employers Casualty Company (ECC). He was in sales and I was in claims, but we had a good friendship. I have thought of Sam often since those ECC days and always come to the same conclusion..."he was such a good guy". We both shared a love for the Dallas Cowboys. One of his favorite players was Billy Joe Dupree. He was a humble guy. I know he loved Carmen and his children. May God bless Sam and provide strength and comfort to the Lucia family.
