I think Preston & I met when we were in 8th grade. He came to San Augustine School. We had fun playing sports thru high school. I was there the night he ran the 100 yard kick off against Nederland & made a touch down! Just one of the many fun time memories. It is pretty amazing how mine & Preston’s lives parrelled. He was 8 days older than me. After graduation: He went to SFA & I went to Sam Houston. In 1954 we met up at Fort Bliss. After basic Our paths parted. He went to Norfolk, Virginia & I went to Washington, DC. After we did our army time, he went to work with DuPont & I went to work for East Texas Pulp & Paper. He was charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Orange. I am a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Valliant, OK. We, the San Augustine class of 1952 missed him this year at our 66th class reunion. He will continue to be missed. Prayers for the family. Lee Roy & Juanita Hanzel

Before I ever met Preston myself I knew what a wonderful man he was. Bryan would come home from the DERA golf course speaking of the kind man who invited him to play along and always sent him home with a handful of golf balls. It was a few years after I met Preston myself and had formed my own high opinion of him when I made the connection that he was my son's golfing friend. I'm sure many others have similar stories. Orange is a better place because of men like Preston, and I'm so lucky to have met him and known him as a friend. My sincerest sympathies to the family and friends who loved him and mourn his passing.
