Orys C. "Gunny" Gunstream, Jr.

1926 ∼ 2013

On September 20, 2013, the world lost a gentleman and a friend to all.

Orys Gunstream slipped the bonds of earth after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Orange, Texas, born August 8, 1926. Orys was known as a family man who loved family gatherings, was a master machinist, was one of the Great Generation of WWII and a man of his word. He was that friend upon who we had no fear to call…he was always there for us. He served in the US Navy in WWII as a machinist mate and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in the Naval Reserve. He retired from DuPont Sabine River Works as maintenance supervisor after 38 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Orange, Madison Lodge 126 AF & AM, a life member of both the VFW and American Legion, past president of the local chapter of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, and past president of the Orange Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Dorothy.

Those left to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Linda Gunstream; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Patrick and Alyssa Gunstream, and John Gunstream; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Wyatt and Lilyana Gunstream; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Rene Fitzgerald; nieces and nephews, Stefan and Kristi Grove and family, Brent and Angela Burris and family, Phillip and Kelly Smith and family, Sean and Stig Daniels, Shannon Fitzgerald and Wes Mau and family, Will and Penni Fitzgerald and family, Van and Lori Fitzgerald and family; and special friends, Lon and Diana Craft.

Serving as pallbearers are John Martin, Lon Craft, Brent Burris, Stefan Grove, Phillip Smith, Will Fitzgerald, Van Fitzgerald, and Drew Craft. Honorary pallbearers are John Weirich, Swede Anderson, and Lynard Snyder.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River City Hospice, the Methodist Children’s Home, or the charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
