Margaret Erie Orr
Margaret Erie Miller Orr was born on June 14, 1927, and was welcomed into heaven on September 25, 2026, at the age of 99. She was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi, spent most of her adult life in Metairie, Louisiana, and was a resident of Orange, Texas for the last 20 years.
Margaret was one of eight children born to Howard and June Miller. After graduating high school, she went to nursing school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana earning her Registered Nurse degree. In 1948, she married her “Sweetheart”, Edward Orr. They had four children, two boys then two girls, “just as they planned.” She will be remembered as a wonderful wife of 62 years to Edward, and a loving mother to their children.
Margaret and Edward both came from loving Christian homes and they continued that in their family. Their love of God was evident their selfless lives and service to the church. Their Baptist roots ran deep, spending many years at Kenner First Baptist and Parkview Baptist in Louisiana, more recently at Deweyville First Baptist in Texas. Margaret spent many years teaching children’s Sunday School and VBS. She also played an important part in the WMU ministry and helped create and direct a Clothing Ministry and Food Pantry.
Margaret and Edward loved to camp and travel the country seeing God’s beautiful creation and visiting friends and family. She was proud that they made it to all 50 states. Visiting them at a campground always found Margaret cooking by the Coleman stove and Edward building a campfire. And, if there was a “fishing hole” nearby that made her day! Margaret also had the gift of encouragement, which was evident in her endless card writing, and loving on people with her baked goods, especially banana bread and chocolate crispies!!
Margaret spent the last five years at Stonewood Senior Living in Orange Texas, being lovingly cared for under the direction of John Toney. We are forever grateful to them for offering the highest level of care and compassion, in such a warm and loving atmosphere.
Margaret will be remembered as a child of God who loved her family unconditionally and anyone else who crossed her path.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026, preceded by 10:00 visitation, at Deweyville First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Damon Bickham, pastor of Deweyville First Baptist Church, and Rev. Jonathan Weldon of Blanco, Texas. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and June Miller, six siblings, her husband Glenn Edward Orr, Jr., her son, Monty Orr, and daughter-in-love Sherry Orr.
She is survived by three children, Glenn Edward Orr, III of Hackberry, Louisiana, Phyllis Orr Walker and husband, Lee of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Mary Orr Weldon and husband, Gerry of Orange, Texas, daughter-in-law, Pat May, daughter-in-law, Peggy Pelton, and sister, Marilyn Miller, also 10 grandchildren – Gianna, Nancy (Mark), David (Tasha), Michael, Patrice, Kirk (Emily), Lee, Chad (Suzanne), Jennifer (Chris), Jonathan (Abby), also Meagan (Dave), and 19 great grandchildren.
