Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Oakdale, Louisiana, on December 30, 1944, she was the daughter of Doug Grimes and Mildred Perry.
Judi was a most loving and kind wife, momma, nana, and great-nana. Her family was the focus of everything important to her. She spent her youth growing up in the piney woods of Jasper Texas. It was during her time spent in nature that she developed her affection for wildlife. Judi had dogs and cats growing up, but her favorite pet was a raccoon named Josephine. She also had a pet havalina named Arnold, but he was not near as fun as Josephine. Her lifelong dream was to get married and start a family. She married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Brown. Judi was an exceptional wife and mother, but unfortunately, she became a widow after only eight years of marriage. Wayne remained the love of her life and was a part of many of her conversations, truly a testament of her love and devotion to him. In Judi’s younger years, she treasured putting on her rhinestone heels, sparkly dresses and going out dancing whenever she could. She cared deeply for her family, neighbors and the less fortunate. She was always the first to offer help or a meal to those in need. She ensured no one that crossed her threshold left hungry. Judi also loved to care for others; her second lifelong dream was to become a Nurse. She spent most of her later years in healthcare and retired as Home Health Nurse. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending days at the beach sunbathing, searching for seashells, going fishing and adoring her animals. Her beloved dog Tia was never far from her thoughts and was talked about often. Her “grand doggies and grand kitties” were always included at holiday times and given beautiful crocheted and cross-stitched gifts. She was a strong-willed, independent and resilient woman, a vibrant storyteller and a very gifted writer. In 2013, one of her stories was published in the Reader’s Digest. She loved to curl up with family on a rainy day grabbing popcorn and a Coke to watch an old Hollywood classic movie. Judi was a passionate cook, she learned as a little girl from her neighbor Mrs. Dean, and took great pleasure in nurturing her loved ones with home-cooked meals. Judi was a wonderful woman and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Brown; parents, Doug and Mildred Grimes; brothers, Levon Grimes, George Martin Grimes, and Jimmy Grimes; and close sister in-law, Donna Clotiaux.
Those left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her son, David Brown and wife Janet of Tomball, TX, and son Robert Brown and wife Lesli of Round Rock, TX, and son Chad Brown and wife Regina of Orange, TX; grandchildren, Rachel Porter, Torey Sphar and husband Ryan, Trapper brown and wife Maren, Matthew Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Lilly and husband Noah Sciabana, Trent Brown and wife Kaylin; great-grandchildren, Garret, Sadie, Marissa, Penelope, Kenna and one on the way; her nieces Crissy Barker, Laura Ann Clotiaux, and Jannie Clotiaux, and her nephews Altus Barker, Jimmy Barker, Rocky Clotiaux and Shane Clotiaux.

I remember Judi as always having a sweet smile. When I was about 11 or 12 years old I went to spend the night with her after she and my brother Wayne had started dating. We got all dressed up to go hang out with some of her friends. She treated me so special. Of course, she wanted to talk about Wayne! She really loved him. Wayne was crazy about her, too. Something else I remember; shortly after she and Wayne married she came over to visit while Wayne was working. I believe it was Donna, Debbie and I at home and maybe George, our other brother. She sat right down at our piano and started playing. She played by ear. She didn't have to have lessons like me! I thought that was so great. When I married my husband Ed; Judi gave our reception in their new home. I will never forget how special that was. I see by all the photos with her and Wayne's boys and their families; Judi had a very full life filled with love. I am so grateful for that. I know how much she will be missed.

There are so many precious memories I have of Judi. She loved my brother Wayne & stayed by his side always. They lived in a small house on Park Street in Beaumont. It was a very cold morning & their little house didn't have much heat. After Wayne was off to work, Judi made homemade gingerbread & hot cocoa for me. But that is only memory. Their are just too many to share.

I will miss hearing my Nana’s sweet words of encouragement and love. She cared deeply for me as her granddaughter, and I’ll treasure forever her sincere love for me. I am grateful that she no longer feels any physical pain, and that she can now be at peace. I pray that she is now free from the heartache and loneliness she felt at the loss of her husband Wayne. I picture her being reunited with those that she has missed for many years. All of the burdens of life are now gone. I look forward to the day when I can see her again. I will live my life with her memory in my heart. I will do all that I can to make her proud. I know she is watching me from above, and I take comfort in that. I love you very much Nana. Until we meet again.

My mother was a beacon of strength for our family, no matter what obstacle she faced, she never let quit enter her mind. She always figured a way to fix whatever obstacle stood in her path. My mother taught me resilience to never give up on my dreams. She always reminded my brothers and I to always be respectful of our elders, to say yes Sir and Ma am", to look a man in the eye when speaking and always offer a firm handshake. To treat a lady with kindness, open her car door and pull out her chair. She often would remind us that the less fortunate were not always in that circumstance and should be treated with dignity as Jesus treated those around him. I will forever cherish the camping, fishing and beach adventures we had. During the Summer, mom would work double shifts and come home early in the morning hours of a Friday exhausted, but never show it. She would wake us all up, including any friends that were (always) over at the house and say "lets head to the beach, get the car loaded, I can't wait to see the water!". Then family, friends, pets and all would pile in our vehicle and stay at the beach through the weekend until the last bit of sunset (or Fritos and bean dip) was disappearing late that Sunday evening before heading back home. Oh and mom, I know I was your favorite child, but it was me that put the fireworks in the toaster, not Robert, LOL! Mom, I pray heaven will welcome you with sunny beach landscapes each morning while your holding hands in heaven with my father. May a gentle ocean breeze greet you with a kiss as you he and Tia walk the beaches of heaven to collect seashells together. I pray the sun will shine warm upon your face each day to give you the glow i so fondly remember. Until we meet again, may God hold you all closely in the palm of his hand. I miss you already, love Chad.
