John (Johnny) W. Guidry Sr.

1948 ∼ 2026

John Marcelin Guidry, a devoted family man and respected Senior Piping Designer at R.D.S., passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife Judy, daughter Brandi, grandchildren, Olivia and Zachary on March 15, 2026, in Nederland, Texas. Born on February 24, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, John lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, his faith, and his community.

John’s professional career as a Senior Piping Designer at R.D.S. was distinguished by his expertise and commitment. His work earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike. Beyond his professional achievements, John was a proud member of the First Methodist Church of Nederland, Texas, where he found solace and spiritual strength throughout his life.

His early years were shaped by his service to his country. John honorably served one year in the Army and also fulfilled his duties in the Navy, reflecting a strong sense of patriotism and dedication. He was an active member of the Eagle Fraternity in Port Neches, Texas, and proudly participated in American Legion Post 4093, further demonstrating his lifelong commitment to service and camaraderie.

John’s life was deeply enriched by his family, who remember him with great affection. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Guidry of Nederland, Texas, who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges. Their loving daughter, Brandi Hooge of Denham Spring, Louisiana, along with her children—John’s cherished grandchildren—Austin Hooge, Olivia Hooge, and Zachary Hooge, carry forward his legacy. John was also a proud great-grandfather to Gianna Hooge.

His family bonds extended to his sister-in-law Gaylynne Brown and her husband Scott; and to his brothers, Ray Guidry and Dickie Guidry. John's love and support were felt by his nephews, John Brown and his wife JoBeth, and Josh Brown and his wife Cheris, as well as a special niece, Christi Murphy and her husband Robby, and sister- in- law Tammy DeFonte whose care was invaluable during these last several months. The family circle was further expanded by great-nephews Chandler Lancon and Austin Kahla.

John’s blended family was an integral part of his life. He is survived by his stepdaughters, Pam Kech and her husband David, Sheila Malcolm and her husband Kevin, and Tara Burkhalter. The step-grandchildren, Trisha Zelner and Sha Kmiec, along with numerous other step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, held a special place in his heart.

He also leaves behind a large extended family of brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who treasure his memory.

John was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Wilson Caesar Guidry and Edith Elenor (Lydet) Guidry and mother and father-in-law, William and Dorothy Scott. He was also predeceased by his brother, Put Guidry; sister, Janet Smith; brother-in-law, Jackie Smith; son-in-law, Phillip Hooge; and nephews, Damian Lancon and Brian Smith.

A visitation to honor John Marcelin Guidry will take place on April 11, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Methodist Church Nederland, located at 104 N 13th St, Nederland, Texas, 77627. This will be followed immediately by funeral services from 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

John Marcelin Guidry’s life was one of steadfast dedication—to his family, his country, and his community and his love for his two dogs Dharma and Taylor. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue through the generations who loved him deeply. May he rest in eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Bereavement and Children's Ministry at the First Methodist Church, 104 North 13th Street, Nederland, Texas 77627.

Judy, Brandy & Famiy Cheryl and I were heartbroken to hear of John’s passing. John was a true friend to all who met him especially through his church family at First Methodist in Nederland. He touched so many lives in the very best way. Cheryl & I are so grateful that we got the chance to know him as both a friend and a member of his Church Family as well as through the Nederland Professional Lions Club over the years. Judy, we are holding you close in our thoughts and prayers and are hoping you are doing okay. We are also sending you our warmest thoughts as you navigate this difficult time — and wishing you hope and healing when you’re ready. We all know that John’s presence in your life was a true blessing. His memory will forever be a part of your story, and his love will continue to comfort you. Ken & Cheryl Young
