Born in Beaumont, Texas, on June 2, 1956, he was the son of Billy Joe Billings and Dorothy Cile (Sexton) Billings. Joe was active in FFA in high school and a rodeo bull rider. He enjoyed mowing and gardening, especially the roses. He worked in the oilfields and was a truck driver and retired as a mechanic at Turner Automotive in Beaumont where he acquired such nicknames as Paw Paw and Uncle Grumpy.
Before his multiple back surgeries and constant pain, Joe enjoyed deer hunting, both bow and gun hunting. After becoming unable to hunt, he watched the cooking shows to plan how he would have cooked the deer. In the last notes he wrote while in the hospital is a list of ingredients he wanted to use. In his notes he also requested a purple shirt and a red tie to wear as a going home shirt. His greatest claim to fame, and he was quick to tell you, was his big collection of tidbits of information and trivia. He always said he was full of wisdom but if you ask Pam she said he was full of bull. Joe will be remembered in the hearts of all those who loved him and will be missed for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Dorothy Billings; sisters, Billie Diane Billings and Rachel Billings Carouthers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Pamela Billings; children, Jennifer Martin and husband David of Mount Enterprise, Billy Bob Hoffpauir and wife Jaime of Bridge City and Joseph Dill and wife Tina; step-child, Katrina Wright and husband Josh of Port Neches; grandchildren, Steven Martin, Julia Martin, Bailey Crorey, Allie Wright, Silas Hoffpauir, and Tristan Hoffpauir; sisters, Cheryl Turner and husband Tommy and Elaine Hoffpauir and husband Johnny; along with numerous other loving family and friends.

Donald (DT) met Joe wow driving a big truck from Kentucky to Texas. They became good friends, and Hunting Buddies. Joe and Pam came to Kentucky for a turkey hunting . We all became really good friends during that time. To the best of my knowledge Joe did get his Kentucky turkey. But DT almost managed to car kill them on flat ground. They flip a Suzuki Samurai to hear DT tell it 7 times. No one was hurt thankfully they did continue to hunt the rest of the day. The samurai was a little Jack legged. Good memories. We were thankful and blessed to have known and called Joe our friend. May God comfort and bless Pam and the family in the days to come. You will be missed oh friend.
