Obituary
Janice Marie Simmons, 65, of Orange, Texas, passed away on April 20, 2024, at her home in Orange.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Harland Strother of Orange County Cowboy Church.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on August 29, 1958, she was the daughter of James Weldon Jernigan and Jennie Lucille McAdams Jernigan. Janice was a faithful member of Orange County Cowboy Church. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Janice was a woman of many talents. She had numerous hobbies that she could often be found engaging in such as quilting and teaching quilting, volunteering at Thrift and Gift, and making her own dresses and jewelry. Janice also had a green thumb and found solace in tending her beautiful garden, being outdoors and camping. True to her vivacious spirit, her favorite color was red. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Jennie Jernigan; her husband, Richard A. Simmons; her grandchild, Raeleen Simmons; and her siblings, Steve Jernigan and Kathy Oxley.
She is survived by her children, Scott Simmons and wife, Colleen of Orange, Michelle Delaney and husband, Shane of Orange, and Richard “Ricky” Simmons of West Virginia; her grandchildren, Zachary Thibodeaux and wife, Brianna, Jaycie Wilson, and Waylon Simmons; her great-grandchild, Saylor Thibodeaux; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
