Janelle Wallace Ramsey, 77, of Orange, TX, passed away on April 9, 2024. Born to the late Jim and Nellie Salee Wallace on June 3, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana, she graduated from the University of Alabama and obtained a Master of Library Science from the University of North Carolina. Her joy in life was to instill the love of reading, serving as a librarian, library director, and media specialist. She was the first professional librarian at the Macon County Public Library in Franklin, North Carolina and childrens librarian at the Anderson County Public Library in Anderson, South Carolina.

Besides her parents, Janelle was preceded in death by the late Lee Ramsey. Janelle was the older sissy to Deborah England and sister-in-law to Michael England. Janelle was the beloved wife to Hank Ramsey, cherished mother to Clayton Ramsey, and caring mother-in-law to Claire Ramsey, a doting grandmother to Joshua Ramsey and Nicholas Ramsey, and sister-in-law to Sharon Ramsey and Jeff Gillette. She enjoyed hiking, including climbing Mt. LeConte, reading, and engaging in book discussions. She was an officer of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Association of University Women.

The family appreciates the loving care that Janelle received from Theracare Home Health, Synergy Home Care, and Heart to Heart Hospice, including caregivers Nicole Johnson, Kyla Henry, Dee Nelson, and Denise Holman.

There will be two memorial services. The first service will be on Sunday, April 14, in Orange, Texas at the Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with visitation at 2:00 pm and service at 3:00 pm. A second service will be on Wednesday, April 17, in Franklin, North Carolina at the Macon Funeral Home Chapel with visitation at 1:00 pm and service at 2:00 pm.

Contributions may be made to the Lee Ramsey Undergraduate Research Scholarship, c/o Furman University, 3300 Poinsett Hwy, Greenville, SC. The Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, TX, and the Macon Funeral Home in Franklin, NC are handling the arrangements.
