Helen Phelps, 93, of Bridge City, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, at the United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Don Holston. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland. Serving as Pallbearers will be Charles W. Berry, III, Steven Berry, Travis Holston, Robert Holston, Russell Young and Roger Quinn.

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in Washington, Louisiana on September 12, 1920, Mrs. Phelps was the daughter of Charlie Wesley Clark and Louella (Stout) Clark. She had worked for 15 years as a cashier for the Chevron Station on 9th Ave and 32nd Street in Port Arthur.

During WWII, Mrs. Phelps was a welder at Consolidated Shipbuilding in Orange. She also had owned and operated Helen’s Beauty Shop in Orange and Nederland and the Ricelands Motel and Restaurant in Winnie. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd Phelps, Mrs. Phelps is survived by her children, Charles “Cooter” Berry, Jr. and his wife Carolyn, of Beaumont, Patricia Frederick of Bridge City; sister, “Toupie” Holston and husband, Orvis of Orange; four grandchildren, Melissa Frederick-Martin, Rodalyn Tuttle, Charles W. Berry, III, Steven Berry and two great grandchildren, Tiffany Dean, Kaitlyn Berry; one great great grandchild, Andrea Dean; and numerous nieces and nephews.
