Gwendolyn Armstrong Settles was born August 22, 1936, in St. Francis County, Arkansas, to Worth B. Armstrong and Audrey (Smith) Armstrong. She graduated from Stark High School in 1954, and then attended Lamar State College of Technology in Beaumont, Texas. She married Glenn W. Settles, Jr. in 1957, and worked 30 years as a secretary for the West Orange-Cove School District.

Gwen passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, at home in Boerne at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Worth LaRue Armstrong. She is survived by her brother Robert Armstrong of Sugarland, Texas, and her nieces and nephews: Lee Armstrong, Clay Armstrong, Rich Armstrong, Shelley Iacobell, Julie Downs, Curt DeBerry, Tommy Chase, Hal DeBerry, Dale DeBerry Jr., and Debbie DeBerry.

A memorial service will be held for Gwen on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. Another memorial service will be held in Orange, Texas, on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Claybar Funeral Home which will be followed by inurnment in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
