The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Orange. Serving as pallbearers are David Smith, Brandon Smith, George Duhon, Robbie Duhon, Thomas Vilo and Brother David Paz. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Father Rob’s Franciscan Brothers.
Rob was born in Orange July 13, 1949 to C.J. and Earline Young. The first son born following two girls, he was a very welcomed addition to the family. He was a very precious child and was so cute and charming. He could get away with anything.
Rob was baptized at St. Mary Church. It is here he received the Sacraments and was nurtured in the faith. He attended St. Mary Elementary School and following his graduation from St. Mary High School, attended the University of Dallas, U.C.L.A. at Berkley and Boston University. He received many degrees and honors while in college.
He attended Seminary; was vested in 1975 and was ordained by Bishop Schubsda on September 11, 1982 at Mission Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California. Following his ordination, Father Rob celebrated his first Mass at St. Mary Church. It is very fitting that we now remember and celebrate his life in this Church.
Father Rob had been assigned to Indian Ministry in Topowa, Arizona and to parishes in Portland, Oregon, Three Rivers, California, San Francisco, California, Tularosa, New Mexico, Pensacola, Florida, Tallahassee, Florida and Santa Barbara, California. For a time, he lived in the Holy Land and often spoke of how he would love to again live in the mountains of Jerusalem. At the time of his passing, he was assigned to St. Petersburg, Florida. He had a special appointment and project in his ministry of the Divine Will of God.
Father Rob was appointed a Papal Missionary of Mercy by Pope John Paul, II. As a missionary, he traveled to many states and countries, giving retreats, missions and being a guest speaker at conferences and meetings. He was honored to Con-celebrate Mass with Pope John Paul, II.
A humble man, his accomplishments, which he never liked to talk about, were many. He had Master’s degrees in Theology, English and Philosophy. He could speak five languages fluently; play many different musical instruments; had a beautiful voice; and was a gifted writer. He served as director of Radio Maria in Alexandria, Louisiana. He loved his ministry there because he could touch so many people through the radio programs.
Rob was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He made thousands of friends all over the world as he served in the states and Europe. He was a quiet, peaceful man who enjoyed being alone in prayer.
Following the death of his father at a young age, Rob had to become the “man of the house.” He helped his mother as she worked to raise five children. He was a dependable, responsible and an awesome brother. He was always there for his family. He would counsel us, pray for us and pray with us. Father Rob was such a joy and very precious man to our family and the world. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him but we rejoice that he has entered into the eternal presence of his Lord and is again with our Mom and Dad. We love you Rob! You were a good and faithful servant!
Father Rob was preceded in death by his parents, C.J. and Earline Young. He is survived by his brother, Anthony Young and his partner, Greg Tinsley, of Pearland, Texas; sisters, Glenda Lucia and her husband, John, of Orange, Nancy Smith and her husband, David of Houma, Louisiana, Marian Duhon and her husband, George, of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and his close friends, Father Michael Weldon, OFM and Father Larry Gosselin, OFM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Franciscan Friars, Development Office, Province of Saint Barbara, 1500 34th Ave., Oakland, California 94601 (sbfranciscans.org); Radio Maria, 601 Washington St., Alexandria, Louisiana 71301; or St. Mary’s School Foundation, 2600 Bob Hall Rd., Orange, Texas 77630.

My deepest condolences to the family of Fr Robert Young . I have been away in Canada for about 2 months and today I wanted to listen to his broadcast . Truly I am shocked that he died of a heart attack and so young 68 ! I am truly sorry . In 2005 Fr Young came to the tiny island of Trinidad in the Caribbean to spread the Divine Will . He left some books . A friend told me about him after he left and from 2005 to 2018 every day I have entered and lived in the Divine Will . I have 5 sons and as the years went by I noticed my last son Joshua speaking strangely, spiritually lofty . One day he said " let us offer God to God . " One day after playing a game , I said to him I love God to infinity, I thought I would surely win the game . He then said " mum I love God with all his created and uncreated love ! " Josh won ! There is nothing greater than that ! I shared these experiences by email with Fr Robert and he asked if he could share them on the Divine Will radio program . Of course I said yes . In January of 2017 Joshua declared he wanted to be a priest . It was my intention in 2018 to call Fr Robert and ask him where young men go to be priests in the Divine Will . Fathers tapes have been like an anchor for me over the years . He explains everything so well . Now that he is in heaven God will entrust him with a bigger job, to speak to our hearts directly . I would loved to have seen his arrival in heaven. I am sure it was very grand ! We love you and thank you Fr Robert for forming us ! One of the members of your little flock . We had the privilege of crossing Fr. Rob’s path during his year in Santa Barbara where he gave loving care to Fr. John Vaughn and officiated at Masses at the Poor Clare Monastery. His homilies were always spoken from his heart, relevant to the present, and revealed the strength of his priestly commitment. Our memories extend to many Sunday evening dinners with him at the home of mutual friends where we truly got to know the very special man he was. His commitment to his Franciscan brothers, his passion for evangelization of the Divine Will, his research into the life of Luisa Piccarreta, his love for his family and Texas roots were at the core of his being. He was an exceptional priest, humble, private, and compassionate, who followed the Franciscan way, lived their ideals to the fullest, and was an inspiration to all. We are honored to have known him, to have spent such precious time with him, and to be touched by his deep spirituality. His passing leaves a void in those of us he inspired in so many ways. Our deepest sympathy to all members of Fr. Rob’s family. We share their feelings of loss and grief. Ginny and Bob Guess, Santa Barbara, CA

All of us on Long Island were blessed to have had Father in our lives. His sudden passing came as a shock to not only us on the island, but everyone around the world who he has been teaching Divine Will to. Please accept our deepest condolences. We know that all of us will have a very special intercessor in Heaven now! This photo was taken in July when he was on the island for his annual DW Conference that he came here for. He was preparing for Mass and looking down at his book..It reminded me of St. Patrick's prayer which is so very fitting for Father's life..“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.”

Robert was such a wonderful man. He was my childhood friend’s older brother so I have so many memories of being in their home growing up. I was blessed to attend a couple of masses he presided over and always felt so blessed to know him. May he rest at eternal peace and have perpetual love. God watch over his siblings, Glenda, Nancy, Marian and Tony, their spouses, nieces and nephews and all who loved him.

Father Young, cousin & friend, was a remarkable man whose work for the Lord was his mission in life and gave it 100%! He will be missed by many and anyone who had the chance to know him are happy to have him in their life. God sent him home and he is at peace and love in his eternal home. I enjoyed our visits and times together here in Florida. Prayers for the family & friends. He will be missed!
