Obituary

Emma Lou Slater, 85, recently of Portland, Oregon who long lived in Orange, passed away on March 1, 2026, in Forest City, North Carolina.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2026, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Born in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, on June 3, 1940, she was the daughter of Joseph Cormier and Estelle (Comeaux) Cormier. Emma Slater was "Lou" to friends and family. She had a long career working for Comcast Cable before she retired. She was a loving mother to her son William (Bill) as she supported his efforts driving trucks around the country and cared deeply for her sons Ronald and Darren. She made friends with any who met her and had joy in maintaining long and meaningful relationships with friends, some lasting more than sixty years. Lou will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Estelle Cormier; her sons, Ronald K. Beatty and William J. Beatty; her husband, James Slater; and her ex-husband Ronald E. Beatty.

She is survived by her son, Darren Beatty and many nieces; grandchildren, cousins, and loving family members.

We worked together at All American Cablevision on alum creek dr until they merged with Time Warner I left in 93 however we still remained friends still played bingo when she came to Lancaster we had phone calls some long some short calls she always had advice loved those conversations she will be missed will miss those phone calls, glad she is not in pain any longer and she is at peace with all those that have passed before her love you lots
