Elmer “Dusty” Preston Turner, Sr., 73, of Orange, Texas, passed away on April 20, 2026.

Memorial gathering be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a sharing of stories and memories at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born on October 6, 1952, in Vivian, Louisiana, Dusty lived a life rich in dedication, service, and love. Dusty proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a testament to his courage and commitment. After his military service, he dedicated over 25 years of his professional life to Equitable Bag, where his hard work and steadfastness were well-known. Beyond his professional life, Dusty was a true family man, a devoted husband, father, and the beloved "Grandpa" to his many grandchildren. He was a hero to them, and to countless others, always showing up for everyone, whether for big milestones or small, everyday moments. Dusty had a remarkable ability to fill any room with his captivating stories and infectious belly laughs, creating cherished memories for all who knew him. He was known for his unwavering spirit, a man who wasn't a quitter, enjoying life's simple pleasures like a cigarette or a Dr. Pepper. Dusty worked hard his entire life, even when not at his job, and now, he is finally receiving the much-deserved rest he earned. Dusty's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched, a testament to a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, William Turner and Eleanor Welch; his brother, James Warren; his sister, Lindy Lee; and his son, Elmer Preston "T Dusty" Turner, Jr.

Dusty leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Maria Turner. He is also survived by his Pop, Clyde Welch; his sons, James Turner, Sr., and Jarrod Zamora and wife Barbara; and his daughters, Janelle Haley and husband Dennis, and Courtney Shaw and husband Jason. He was a cherished grandfather to James Turner, Jr., Tyler Dixson and wife Maggie, Alexis Clayton and husband Brandon, Brandon Chabaud, Lauren Haley and partner Trey Rainbolt, Jordan Dixson, Valerie Zamora, Trinity Zamora, Kali Gonzales, Gabriela Gonzales, Faith Dixson, Keleigh Dixson, and Charleigh Haley. His joy was further multiplied by his 16 great-grandchildren. Dusty is also survived by his siblings, William "Bill" Turner and wife Leann, and Connie Savoy and husband Scotty, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
