Edward M. Minner

1930 ∼ 2015

Edward M. Minner, 85, of Bridge City, Texas, passed from life through death and into eternity on Thursday, the 26th of March 2015. He is now absent from the body and face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ed was born on the 1st of February 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas, to E.M. and Vesta O’Grady Minner. He was the beloved husband of Peggy McRight Minner and devoted father and father-in-law of Genie; Mark; Linda Martin and husband John; Roger and wife Sherry; and, Michael and wife Deanna. His “other two daughters” are his granddaughters, who grew up in his home: Jessica Peggy Minner and Jamie Minner DeShazo, wife of Allen DeShazo. Ed is also survived by other grandchildren, Logan, Christian and Hannah; Andrew, his wife Hannah; Garret; and, Michael Minner, Jr. He was also the proud great-grandfather to Robert Jaxon DeShazo, who affectionately knows him as “Pop”. Ed is also survived by his sister, Maryann Croom of Sour Lake, Texas.

Ed retired from DuPont in 1985 after 32 years of employment. He enlisted in the Army and served our country during the Korean War years. He was a devoted family man who, throughout his life was a student of the Bible and was always eager to share what he learned with whoever crossed his path. He considered his pastor/teacher R. B. Thieme, Jr., who passed this life in 2009.

Ed Minner, also known to his friends as “Buddy”, loved to study God’s Word and loved to talk about it. Hebrews 4:12 states "The Word of God is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a critic of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Buddy made his transfer from time to eternity in God's provision of dying grace and with the firm understanding that "for me, living is Christ, dying is profit" (Philippians 1:21); for Jesus Christ proclaimed, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me shall live even if he dies" (John 11:25). The apostle Paul wrote a eulogy for the faithful servant in 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” This would certainly apply to Buddy Minner, as he strived to live a life positive to God's Word, to seek the high ground of spiritual maturity with the ultimate goal of bringing glory to God.

Family visitation will be held on Saturday, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; Edward’s memorial service will be conducted at 4 o'clock in the afternoon Sunday, the 29 of March: both the visitation and memorial service will be held at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas.

In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions in memory of Edward Minner may be directed to R. B. Thieme, Jr., Bible Ministries, at 5139 West Alabama St., Houston, TX, 77056

What a GREAT MAN, hunger for the word of the LORD, it's good memories that he shared of the WORD for many years with my friends and family on Bible study night at my home on Martin Ave. He had much knowledge to give with the questions that would come up concerning the Bible verses that we would study. PEACE BE WITH YOU BUDDY! Raymond& Maggie Joubert

I was a kid back in the 70 when I meet the Minner's family at Powell Park. Sorry for you loss of Mr. Minner. You probably don't remember me but I was the dark curly hair little girl that would go to your campground to see if Roger could play. Lisa Sewell

My sincere condolences to the family of "Pop" Minner. I work with Jamie. She spoke of her Pop often and her great love for him was evident. From her descriptions of his actions, I know he was a much loved, generous, Godly man. What a wonderful legacy of memories he has left for his family. Faye Parish

To the entire Minner family. We send our thoughts and prayers to each of you as you celebrate the life of Buddy, but mourn for yourselves the vacancy that he leaves. Such powerful memories that seem like only yesterday come flooding back! Growing up on Martin Avenue, we were more like family than just friends. Three generations of friendships contribute to these memories! The most vivid, and those I will always cherish are of our many camping trips together, and of the pony that got loose on a Sunday morning in our yard! What laughs our dads shared over that through the years! Martin Avenue will never be the same as our parents leave this life before us! God bless you all as you journey through this process remembering the glorious sights he's seeing as we wait to follow him there! Love you! Jill and Gregg Carroll, and Dan Barker.

Peggy, Jess, Jamie, Genie, Linda, Michael, Mark, Roger, and all the family, we are so very sorry. I know that now is a sad time, but I also know it is a time to rejoice, because we know that Buddy is with the Lord now. What wonderful memories I have! From the time I was a small child, when y'all came to visit, it was always such excitement! I was always so excited to be told "Buddy and Peggy are coming." Our family was truly blessed to have such a good, Godly man as one of the influences in our lives. We are praying for all of you right now. Much love to you all, Beth & Mark Barnes Larry & Betty Jones Richard & Haley Jones

Pop, Buddy…such enduring names for such a wonderful man. I am grateful to have had him as my father-in-law for the past ten years. His strength and courage was always expressed through his words and actions; echoing so clearly the teachings of doctrine that he learned from his pastor/teacher R.B. Thieme, Jr. His determination to stand fast to The Truth was the greatest gift he could have ever given his youngest son, Michael, and myself. For through the teachings of his pastor and his son, R.B. Thieme, III of Berachah Church; we have not only come to understand the true meaning of Grace and Dispensational theology but we have also come to know the truth and the truth has truly made us free. We find comfort in knowing that he is face to face with God and uniting with those who went before him along with his pastor/teacher in the Berachah Battalion. We look forward to seeing his great smile and hearing his great laughter again soon but until then we will continue to honor both our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and our Pop, Edward Mercer Minner, who graciously guided us in the way we should go (Proverbs 22:6) by continuing to fulfill the mandate of II Peter 3:18, growing in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Deanna Minner.
