Dorothy Belle “Dot” Skiles

Dorothy Belle “Dot” Skiles, born on January 9, 1938, passed away on June 26, 2026, in Burleson, Texas.

Born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia, Dot moved to Orange, Texas, in 1967, where she became a longtime, devoted, and active member of First Baptist Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, evident in her dedication to teaching Sunday School throughout her entire time at First Baptist. She also shared her talents in the church choir and served in various other roles within the church community. In 2019, Dot moved to Burleson to be closer to family, where she became a member of First Baptist Church, Burleson.

Dot was an avid reader, finding particular joy in the Bible and historical Christian fiction. A very talented artist, she often collaborated with her late husband, Don, combining their skills in woodworking and painting to create cherished gifts for their grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed baking, sharing her culinary talents with those she loved.

Dot is survived by her loving children, Angela Hallford and husband, James “Jimmy”, Laura McMickle, and Donald Skiles and wife, Catina. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Lee Andrew "Drew" Hallford and wife, Hailey, Jessica Hallford, Bradley McMickle and wife, Chandler, Taylor "T.J." McMickle and wife, Allison, Alyssa Skiles, and Justin Skiles. She is also survived by her great-grandchild, Layla Harris; her sister, Nancy Parker and husband Bill; her in-laws, Jean Sheffield, Betty Sheffield, and Paula Sheffield; and numerous other loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Catherine Sheffield; her loving husband of 50 years, Donald “Don” Skiles; and her siblings, Margaret Smith, Billy Sheffield, Burton Sheffield, Mary Sheffield, Charles Sheffield, Jerry Sheffield, and Larry Sheffield.

Services to honor Dot will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Orange. Reverend Barry Bradley will be officiating. There will be a visitation immediately before at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn in Orange.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and deacons of First Baptist Church in Orange for their dedicated service and care for Mr. and Mrs. Skiles during Mr. Skiles' illness and after his passing. Their support was a true blessing to Mrs. Skiles.
