Dora Ellen Barte Barnwell, 90, longtime resident of Orange, Texas, passed away on November 23, 2019, in Beaumont, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be David Turner. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Elkins, West Virginia, on April 29, 1929, she was the daughter of Ernest Barte and Lena Rivers (Fitzgerald) Barte. Dora graduated from Orange High School in 1946. Through the years she worked at Southwestern Bell, Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, and the First Presbyterian Church of Orange. Dora married the love of her life, James Barnwell, on May 7, 1949. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Little Cypress Baptist Church. Dora volunteered for the Women’s Missionary Union, and sang in the church choir. She was also an avid bowler. Dora was a wonderful mother and Memaw who loved her children and grandchildren very much. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Barnwell; and her parents, Ernest and Lena Barte.
She is survived by her children, James “Jimbo” Barnwell and wife Shari of Orange, Thomas “Tommy” Barnwell and wife Tanyia of Mauriceville, Ernest “Ernie” Barnwell and wife Terrie of Orange, and Nancy Ellen Allen and husband Douglas of Orange; her grandchildren, Denise Blackmon and husband Brett, Bradley Barnwell and wife Stacey, Tanner Barnwell, Taylor Friend and husband Jonathan, Maci Teasdale and husband Cynric, Jonathan Allen and wife Jackie, Brittney Barnett and husband Chris, and Zachary Barnwell; her great-grandchildren, Cassie Blackmon, Ty Blackmon, Lawson Barnwell, Audrey Friend, Cade Barnett, and Adaline Teasdale.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley Barnwell, Tanner Barnwell, Jonathan Allen, Zachary Barnwell, Brett Blackmon, Jonathan Friend, Cynric Teasdale, and Chris Barnett.
