Born in LaFollette, Tennessee, on July 16, 1936, Dewie was the son of Birt and Ethel Francis (Bailey) Longmire. He was a longtime member of North Orange Baptist Church. Dewie was always hard at work, having worked from the young age of 13. He had an exceptional work ethic and owned and operated many businesses over his lifetime, including being the owner of a mobile home park. Dewie could fix anything and gave the best advice, never judging but always there to help, giving whatever he could. No matter his struggle, he always provided for others. Dewie was a very charitable man, but was also known for being a jokester. His family knew him as a very affectionate and attentive husband, and a wonderful father and grandfather.
