Gabe Hernandez-TJ c/o 1987- My senior year at TJ, I went to talk with coach Anderson about him helping me out to get to the next level. He never even looked up from the score book he was writing in and asked me, "Gabe, how would you like to play at Panola Junior College?" and I told him I would be happy playing anywhere. Then he said, "Good luck there next year" and I had a baseball scholarship the next day. He was a wonderful man who took care of all kids, not just his WO-S kids. Loved the man.......

Ryke, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad and my former baseball coach. Your dad was truly one of a kind who left an indelible mark on me and thousands of others. I was fortunate enough to play for him for 3 years where I was able to fulfill my baseball playing dreams, develop lifelong friendships, grow into a responsible adult and have a lifetime of memories. He was hard but fair and set the bar very high which helped me accomplish more on the baseball field than I probably deserved. Your dad inspired me then and he inspires me today some 30 years later. Looking back, I loved every minute of my baseball experience with your dad and I loved your dad. My only regret, is that my kids never got to meet him but you can be assured they will hear my stories as long as I am still alive. God Bless you and your family during this difficult time but please find comfort in knowing the joy your dad brought me and so many others. David Haddock, WOS Class of ‘87

Coach Anderson made it possible for me to play baseball in college. As many others have said on KOGT & in the Leader, he was very tough and put up with nothing. But you knew Coach cared about you. It was tough for boys from Stark after the merger, because we thought WO kids would benefit from "their" guy being named the head baseball coach. We found out very quickly that Coach Anderson only cared that your hair was cut over your ears (big thing back then) and that you could perform. I still tell my son about the program Coach Anderson ran and some of the funnier stories (of course, with some of the language cleaned up). Thank you Coach for all the boys you helped along the way and God bless you. Todd Broussard (Austin, TX)
