Chester “Jay” was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on July 16, 1947, to parents Mary Myrtis and Chester Joseph Broussard Sr. He was a machinist with Texaco and later was a Mechanical Inspector for Motiva. He loved his job and retired after almost 45 years of service. Jay was also involved with many unique things throughout his lifetime. He was immersed in the Native American culture and was a headsman of the Kiowa Tia-Piah Society. He enjoyed traveling to powwows, especially Annual in Oklahoma each summer. He was also a talented drummer and was in a band called the Boss Cajuns. He and Mary spent many weekends traveling to play, listen to, and dance to Cajun Music at various shows and festivals. He was passionate about spreading and teaching about Cajun culture. He was a proud member of the Cajun French Music Association and was inducted into the CFMA Hall of Fame. Later in life, he could be found at the Boat Club, trading stories and talking about duck hunting. He loved to be in a blind with his brother and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Chester Broussard, and his brother, Blaine Broussard.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Mary Rose Broussard, his daughters Jessica Porter and Jana Watson, his brother Reginald Broussard and wife Pat, sister Carolyn James and husband John, his grandchildren Ashlee Peevey and husband Joe, Allie Reynolds and husband Derek, Dakota Porter, Brett Trahan and wife Katie, Ryan Posey, Keaura Watson, and Kennedy Watson, as well as his fourteen great-grandchildren.
