Charles Ray Thurman

Charles Ray Thurman, 53, of Orange, Texas, passed away on December 3, 2024, at his home in Orange.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Bubba Thurman.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in Orange, Texas, on July 26, 1971, Ray dedicated over 18 years of service in his career as an Operator at International Paper. His true passion in life, though, was his family, who were always his number one priority. He loved his children fiercely, often expressing his feelings in the most heartfelt ways. Ray’s nurturing spirit extended beyond his own family, as he was regarded as a "second dad" to many, embodying the essence of what it means to be welcoming and inclusive. He had an incredible ability to make everyone feel like family, creating lasting bonds and cherished memories. An avid outdoorsman, Ray reveled in the beauty of nature and spent countless hours fishing and hunting white-tail deer and ducks. He found joy and peace in the tranquility of the great outdoors, and his enthusiasm for these pursuits was contagious. Additionally, he embraced the thrill of competition as a talented participant in team roping at rodeos. Ray was known for his clear and straightforward demeanor—he was a black and white, no grey areas kind of man. His presence was undeniably felt, commanding attention even in silence; those around him always knew he was there, offering support and camaraderie. His capacity to love and connect with others earned him the admiration and affection of many, as he genuinely never met a stranger. Ray will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Ray Thurman.

He is survived by his children, Taylor McDonald and husband, Jake, Libby Thurman, and Brayden Thurman; his “grand-dog”, Bandit the lab; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
