Billy Lynell Shults
Billy Lynell Shults, 70, of Orange, passed away on March 4, 2019, in Port Arthur.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, at North Orange Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Lynn Ashcraft.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service at North Orange Baptist Church.
Born in Fields, Louisiana, on February 19, 1949, he was the son of Ora Delmon Shults and Reatha Mae (Huckaby) Shults. Billy Shults was raised in Starks, LA by his parents and with his siblings, cutting his teeth on fast cars in his dad’s mechanic shop. He graduated from Starks High School in 1967, when he met his beloved wife Carolyn and began their romance that was to last 49 years. After graduation, he served 2 years in the United States Army. He worked for BASF for 34 years as a multicraft maintenance tech, where his work ethic was well-respected and his knowledge and skills with almost any tool he picked up were heavily relied upon. He and Carolyn resided in Orange, TX, where they raised their daughter Stephanie, and were long-time active members of North Orange Baptist Church.
Bill loved spending time with his family and friends anywhere he was – camping and traveling all over the US, holidays and celebrations, participating in his daughter’s and then grandchildren’s events, and helping people anywhere he saw a need. He was known for his outgoing, never-meet-a-stranger warmth, his famous skills on the barbecue pit, his immaculate yard, and his giant hugs. And he never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or important date. Ever. He will be greatly missed by former co-workers who called him friend, by Garner buddies with whom he shared fun, food and a bit of mischief, by nephews who called him mentor, by childhood friends with whom he never lost touch, by a wife who cherished him as her best friend, and by family and friends who shared in so many special traditions with him.
In life and death, Bill always wanted God to be glorified. His life was a shining example of a true servant and of faith – you can’t meet anyone who knew him who didn’t know of his love for Jesus.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Delmon and Reatha Mae Shults of Starks, LA, and brother-in-law Billy Blakeney.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Shults of Orange; daughter, Stephanie Kirby of Beaumont; two grandchildren, Connor and Paige; one sister, Maurice Ray and husband Kenneth of Mansfield, MO; two brothers, Buddy Shults and wife Sherry of Tyler, TX, and Tolly Shults and wife Kathy of Orange, TX; two sisters-in-law, Noreta Barbre and husband Al of Orange, TX and Sandra Blakeney of Deweyville, TX; and an abundance of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be made to North Orange Baptist Church at 4775 N 16th St. Orange, TX 77632.

It was so good to see Billy and Tolly and their wives at our school reunion a few years ago I went back and looked at the pictures after I heard Billy had passed. We sometimes spend too much time seeking new things in life and forgetting old things I am thankful that my life was touched by a good guy like Billy :skin-tone-2::pray::skin-tone-2::pray::skin-tone-2: For his family May the perpetual light of God shine you

Bill was our big brother from a different mother. Bill was the best hugger in the world and the most genuine friend. He was always there for us and my Mom and Dad. We had so much fun with Bill, Carolyn and Stephanie on family vacations. We played dominoes, hiked Old Baldy, floated the Frio, laughed til we cried and cried when we were sad together. He loved me and my family like we were his own. He will be missed but I am certain he is still watching over all of us. We love you Bill. Kay Kimbell

I think I first met Bill & Carolyn in about 1973, but our true friendship started in 1976 when we moved down the street from each other. It’s been a special 43 years and I cherish all the memories. We had so much fun together...couples nights we did pre-kids, raising our kids together, crawfish boils, singing Christmas carols together at the top of our lungs, camping trips, teaching our kids to ride bikes, letting our kids get hurt on a skateboard, floating down the Frio River, climbing Old Baldy, football games, award ceremonies, graduations, and more. I even cherish the sad memories...cancer diagnoses, surgeries, losing parents, moving away from each other, and leaning on each other during some difficult experiences. I wouldn’t change any of it. As I said to Bill a few weeks ago...I’m saying goodbye and I may not see you again on this earth, but I WILL be with you again. I love you, Billy Lynell Shults, and thank you for being my friend. I don't think I can remember a time when I didn't know Billy Shults...He was in our lives from when I was a young girl until my own kids went off to college. He was the definition of a true Texan - smiling, helpful, friendly and a big hugger! I will always remember our times at Garner State Park and our trips up Ol" Baldy with Bill leading the way. A truly generous, kind and thoughtful man. He was so good to my parents during my Dad's illness and struggle with Alzheimer's, and so supportive of my family during other difficult times. May God bless this family and welcome Bill to His kingdom...Will love and keep him in my heart forever...Mandy Steed Walsh

Billy, I remember when you were born. Your Mom and Dad came to see us. When I walked into the room you were laying on a blanket on the floor. I was amazed because It was only second newborn I had seen. Will always remember good memories of you. Enjoyed visiting you when you lived across the street from Mother and Daddy.
