Billie Rae Stelly

Billie Rae Stelly, 88, of Orange, Texas went to be with Jesus on Friday, April 6, 2018. She was born on December 4, 1929 and grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Gussie Vincent of Lake Charles, La, and her husband of 57 years, Jim Stelly. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Lester Glen Vincent (Bub) of Leesville, Louisiana.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jamye Martin and husband Joe of Bridge City, Texas, along with Kathy Stelly Henry and husband Paul of Orange, Texas. Billie Rae was affectionately known to her grandchildren as GeeGee. Her grandchildren are Clint Martin of Kerrville, Texas, Ryan Martin and wife Gina of Bridge City, Texas and Ashley Wooters and husband Pat of Geismer, Louisiana. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Alyssa Claybar, Jordan Martin, Mattox Smith and Stella Wooters along with their siblings.

Billie Rae led a full life. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Orange, Texas. Billie Rae and Jim Stelly both graduated from LSU and remained avid LSU fans attending most home football games for over 50 years. She was also a member of AOπ. Billie Rae taught Physical Education and Math for many years, retiring after over 35 years. She and her husband had many civic interests including being members of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Ducks Unlimited. Billie Rae and Jim also enjoyed traveling to many different places and countries. She enjoyed doing many different crafts including, sewing, quilting, and painting. Billie Rae, being an excellent cook, enjoyed a challenge. Some of her favorite times were spent with friends and family. GeeGee will be missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who she adored.

Billie Rae’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to her caregiver, Edna Bell. We want to thank her for being a friend to us, as well as taking such good care of our Mom and grandmother, for almost 5 years. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor E. Dale Lee, of Cowboy Church in Orange.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
