Bettie Sue Langley

Bettie Sue Langley, 95, of Orange, passed away on October 2, 2022, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend John Fortenberry and Isaac Munoz. Burial will follow at Richard-Welch Cemetery in Newton County.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Bettie was born in Orange, Texas, on December 31, 1926, she was the daughter of Jesse David Welch and Susie Elena Welch. She enjoyed riding horses in her younger years. Bettie was her community’s greatest prayer warrior, she regularly sent hundreds of prayer requests out. She was an ordained minister, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville. Bettie was also a choir member at First Baptist Church of Deweyville for several years. She took great pleasure in music, and would frequently go play piano or guitar at several different churches over the years. Bettie loved people, but adored her family and beloved grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nanny Bet.” She was truly a treasure and touched the lives of so many. Bettie will always be loved and remembered by those that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Dale Langley; parents, Jesse and Susie Welch; grandparents, Elijah and Mary Young; brothers, John Wilbur Welch, and Jessie M. Ferris.

She is survived by her children, Doicus Ray Langley of Buna, David Oliver Langley and wife Donna of Mauriceville, Billy Jack Langley and Helen Hardy of Orange; nine grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Clyde Welch, and Carolyn Broussard and husband Charles.

I’m so saddened by the passing of Ms. Langley. Many days and nights during my childhood years were spent with Michael, Billy Jack, David, and Ray (Bubba). Although my heart is aching, I know she is at peace and has gone home.
