Robert Gerald Brown

September 27, 1958 — November 18, 2025

Orange, Texas

Robert Gerald Brown, 67, of Six Mile Community, Texas, joined the ranks of the Master Carpenter in Heaven on Tuesday, November 18th after a brief illness.

Awaiting him in Heaven are his parents, Gerald and Adley Brown of Orange, Texas. Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his wife of 32 years, Karen (Bounds) Brown, sons Stewart Thurston and wife Gabi of Beaumont, Texas, Thomas Brown of Six Mile Community, Texas, Cliff Brown and wife Sarah of The Woodlands, Texas, Lucas Thurston and wife Katy of Houston, Texas, Jarek Viator and wife Josie of Wheaton, Virginia, grandchildren Isabella, Zoe, Adalyn, Elliot, Isaac, Vada and Lincoln, sisters, Judy Brown of Orange, Texas and Janet (Brown) Dobbs of Little Cypress, Texas, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his precious furbaby Robo.

Robert was born in Orange, Texas on September 27, 1958. He was a graduate of West Orange High School and worked at American Bridge before spending the majority of his working years at Arlanxeo while it was Polysar, then Bayer, then Lanxess. It was during those years, after narrowly escaping certain death by train, that he decided he had been spared for a reason and spent the remainder of his days being the best friend, family member and mentor he could.

Robert had many hobbies. Some, like pouring concrete, were not well received by his sons who were awoken early to help with the task. Many, like his carpentry and cabinet building, impressed those far and wide with his creativity and skill. Some, like hunting and fishing, brought him true friendships along with the trophies. All of them involved experiencing his gifts of wit and storytelling.

Before he retired in 2016, Robert built the beautiful A-Frame with the red roof you saw from Six Mile Bridge. This home hosted those looking for a soft bed, a cold drink, and a fish story. Many children experienced the joy of their first catch off his dock. It was resplendent in the snow, especially when his wife made sure there was a Christmas tree in every corner.

Robert rarely said no if you asked him for help on a project. He’d drive across the country if you needed something. He kept his word. He knew God’s word. Robert understood the measure of a man was the opposition it took to discourage him, and he remained resolute in his determination and convictions right up until he took his last breath.

A visitation gathering of Robert’s family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m., November 25, 2025, also at Claybar Orange, followed by a short graveside service at Hillcrest Gardens. All are welcome to visit afterward and share stories and a meal at the home of Paul and Julie Mashaney in Little Cypress, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Elliot Brown, Brandon Brown, Caleb Gipson, Josh Gipson, Cliff Brown, Tommy Brown, Luke Thurston, Sam Mashaney, and Jonah Mashaney. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Downs and Alex Fontenot.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Six Mile Fire Department.
