Mathias "Bud" Francis Wiszmann

Mathias “Bud” Francis Wiszmann, 90, of Long beach, Washington, passed away on July 16, 2025, at Forever Young Home in Groves, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Services and burial will follow at a later date in Seattle, Washington.

Born in Exeter, Nebraska, on September 14, 1934, he was the son of Mathias H. Wiszmann and Hermina Wiszmann (Krejci). Bud was a devoted family man and a professional known for his significant contributions in the field of communications. He served in the U.S. Navy at the young age of 17, where he was assigned to the aircraft carrier Kearsarge. After his service, he moved to Seattle, Washington, to live with his brother Hal. In Seattle, Bud worked at Hal's Shell gas station, where he met his future wife, Alice. The couple married in 1964 and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage, sharing countless memories until Alice's passing in March this year. Bud worked for Pacific Northwest Bell, which changed to US West and later collaborated with Ted Turner to run the communications for the Goodwill Games in 1990. After that event, he spent several years working at Microsoft before eventually retiring. He was also proud to be part of the Telephone Company Pioneers, a testament to his dedication and hard work. Outside of his professional life, Bud was actively involved with his children. He helped coach youth sports and served in his son's Boy Scouts, supporting them during their formative years. Bud cherished family time and continued to seek leisure activities, bowling every Tuesday night and spending winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, with Alice after the children had grown up and moved out. Bud will be remembered for his commitment to family, his professional accomplishments, and the many lives he touched with his kindness and support.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Alice Wiszmann; parents, Mathias and Hermina Wiszmann; siblings, James Wiszmann, Harold Wiszmann, Ruth Gorgan, Leonna Ickes, Erma Wiszmann, and Mary Francis Wiszmann.

He is survived by his son, Mike Wiszmann and wife Kelly; daughters, Patricia LaPierre and husband Marc, Mary Dewees and husband Cullen, Becky Buchan and husband Adam “Buck”; grandchildren, Chelsea Trahan and husband Johnathan, Rylee Wiszmann, Bryan LePierre, Devon LaPierre, Austin Dewees, Elissa Dewees, Elden Buchan, Jacob Buchan, and Jonah Buchan; great grandchildren, Sawyer, Karter, Stetson; many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
