Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on October 20, 1947, Rick was a man of easy joys and deep passions. He had a lifelong love for Dachshunds, who were more than just pets, they were his loyal companions and cherished family members. His home was always filled with their playful spirit, and they brought him endless comfort and laughter.

Another great love of Rick’s life were his cars and motorcycles; they were not just vehicles, but a symbol of his adventurous spirit. He spent countless hours driving, polishing, and proudly sharing stories with anyone who asked. Also, for Rick, his home was a reminder of timeless music, and he could often be found effortlessly playing away to his favorite records in his drum room.

Those who knew Rick will remember his effortless sense of humor, fondness for road trips, and love of coffee. Whether he was sharing his talent as an accomplished drummer with his congregation at the First Baptist Church of Carlyss, enjoying an afternoon with his Lucy, or taking his convertible out for a spin on a sunny day, Rick lived life on his own terms; with simplicity, faith, and music.

He will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in every bark of a Dachshund, every shine of chrome, every drum solo, and every memory shared by those who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Simmons and Earsell Stone, and his brother Albert Simmons.

He is survived by his loving significant other, Jenny Mayfield; his sons, Richie Simmons and wife, Melanie, and Davin Simmons and wife, Elsa; his grandchild, Murphy Simmons; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
