Katherine Lee “Kathy” Hanks, 57, of Orange, Texas, passed away on August 22, 2025, in Houston.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Wilkinson Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Bexar County, Texas, on February 6, 1968, she was the daughter of Leroy Matlock and Judy Schuetz. Kathy devoted her professional life to her role as a general manager for Sonic, where she was known for her warm smile and dedication to her work. Kathy's vibrant personality extended beyond her career into her many hobbies and interests. She had an exceptional talent for gardening, showcasing her passion for plants with a green thumb that made her home a blossoming sanctuary. Her love for the outdoors also translated into a deep enthusiasm for fishing; with her skillful hands, she often outperformed her husband, Rodney. She had a deep love for all animals and contributed to animal rescues and wildlife rehabilitation centers. Kathy's ability to connect with nature was a testament to her loving spirit and her appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. Those who knew Kathy were often touched by her kindness and generosity. She was affectionately called "Grandma" by her grandchildren, a title that she wore with pride. Her nurturing nature and unwavering love left an indelible mark on the hearts of family and friends alike. Kathy's legacy will continue to be honored through the memories she created and the love she shared throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Randy Matlock.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rodney Hanks; her parents, Leroy Matlock and Judy Schuetz; her children, Brent Wayne Matlock and wife, Brittany, J.C. Doucet and spouse, Janie Bortz, Natasha Allen, Ashlynn Howard and husband, Steven, and James Hanks; her grandchildren, Landon, Little J.C., Christina, Kayson, Adalynn, Octavia, Vera, Marion, and Lyra; her siblings, Tim, Leah, Alton, Charlsie, Ariann and Jezlyn; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
