Judith Ann “Judi” Slack Landry Oct. 30, 1942 – Oct. 25, 2025

Known for her strong spirit and quick wit, Judith Ann “Judi” Slack Landry of Port Neches passed away on Oct. 25, 2025, at Rosefield Court Assisted Living Facility in Port Arthur, with her daughter by her side, days before her 83rd birthday.

Judi shared her life with her husband, John Douglas Landry, from their first date to a Boy Scout Christmas party in the sixth grade until he took his last breath, with her by his side. In nearly 60 years of marriage, they built a life filled with adventure, laughter and compassion. Following John’s pipeline career, they lived everywhere from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands to North Pole, Alaska, with many stops in between. They cherished being Grammy and Paw Paw to their grandchildren. Judi planned countless adventures and experiences that became lasting, cherished memories, and she and John never missed a chance to be present and supportive in their grandchildren’s lives.

Judi was a proud graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in Beaumont, class of 1964, continuing a family tradition of nursing. She was an active stay-at-home mom to her daughter and involved in her extracurricular activities, including 4-H, registered Quarter Horse shows and cheerleading. She and her husband later owned and operated Country Folks Gifts for 13 years, where John focused on woodworking and Judi hand-painted the pieces. Judi later began her nursing career in hospice care, where she worked for more than a decade, before transitioning into psychiatric care, from which she retired.

Judi was comical, creative, feisty and steadfast. She loved cruising, hosting loved ones and making friends everywhere she went. She was the life of the party, known for karaoke performances, dancing, starting conga lines to “Rum and Coca-Cola,” playing the drums, gambling, playing games and proving she could still kick her leg up at any age. Known as the family’s storyteller and poet, she made a point to pass down Pillsbury family traditions to her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rossaline Georgia Pillsbury Slack and LeRoy Slack; and her husband, John Douglas Landry.

She is survived by her brother, Victor Slack; her daughter, Molly Landry of Port Neches; granddaughter Lacey Lively of Bryan; grandson Johnny Lively; daughter-in-law Haleigh Lively; great-grandson Carson Lively; great-granddaughter Charleigh Lively of Beaumont; her fur babies; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, the family asks that you treat life as Judi did. Do not take it too seriously. Find the joy, laughter and silver linings where you can, and make them if they can’t be found easily.

Cremation services were held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. The family will hold a private Celebration of Life ceremony.

POEM –

Entertain Strangers By Judi Landry, May 1993

As we travel down life’s highway, at different paces we all go. Some of us go speeding, while others take it slow. It’s not how fast we travel that really matters much; the most important part of life is the hearts that feel our touch.

I think that God sends faces into our lives each day. Some are there forever, while others pass away. Easily we touch the heart of those we love so dear, but the truly loving way is to give a stranger a cheer.

A smile, a word, a helping hand are easy gifts to give. Give them to a stranger. Make life easier to live. For God has said, and I know it is true, entertain strangers; they may surprise you.

Consider this of the faces you see: Some, in reality, angels could be.
