John Wayne Clark, 90, of Orange, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2025, at home.

Born in Hoyt, Texas, on October 23, 1934, he was the son of John Welsey Clark and Dollie Bernice (Foster) Clark. John led a life marked by dedication to his community and a deep love for his family. John spent many years working in newspaper advertising at the Orange Leader, where he made lasting contributions to the field. Following his retirement, he took on the role of a substitute teacher, sharing his knowledge and passion with young minds. A proud graduate of A&M, his education laid the groundwork for his future endeavors. John’s commitment to service extended beyond the classroom and into his military career. He proudly served four years as a United States Marine, followed by four years in the United States reserves. His dedication to his country was evident in his role as Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he devoted 45 years to volunteering and helping fellow veterans. John had a love for history, football, and basketball. These interests not only enriched his life but also provided him with many joyful moments that he shared with his family and friends. He also enjoyed woodworking in his shop, his loved ones knew you could always find him out there working on his latest creation when they came to visit. Family was at the heart of John’s life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His warmth and care for his loved ones were felt deeply by all who knew him. John will be remembered for his service, his family devotion, and his many contributions to his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dollie Clark; and sister, Betty Rose Hardwick.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jeanette Ruth Clark; children, Jacqueline Bishop, John William “Bill” Clark and wife Emily, Cathy Clark, and Larry Wayne Clark; grandchildren, Alicia Craig and husband Doug, Brandye Bishop, Christina Parker and husband Jason, Melissa Clark and husband Frank, Krystal Amway and husband Jonathan, Cassandra Lyon and husband Owen, and Jay Clark; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild on the way; as well as other loving family and friends.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
