John graduated from Sterlington High School in 1968 before going on to attend Louisiana College. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether on the golf course, in the woods, or on the water. John continued to serve in various churches through his travels over the years, including Williams Boulevard Baptist Church in Kenner Louisiana, and Cook Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana.
