Jimmy Ann Watwood Smith, of Wildwood, Texas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister died peacefully June 5, 2007 with her husband, Joe, at her side. She was 71. Jimmy Ann was born October 11, 1935 in Houston, Texas to the late Clera Varnell Watwood and Duncan Niven Watwood and grew up in Beaumont, Texas.
She graduated from South Park High School in 1953. She continued her education at Lamar University where she was homecoming queen and the first female to graduate with a chemical engineering degree in 1957. She worked as a chemical engineer, math and chemistry teacher, and a real estate agent. She was in Who?s Who of American Colleges and Universities in 1955; was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and national board member. She was also an active community volunteer and a faithful and devoted member of the Wildwood-Village Mills United Methodist Church.
Jimmy Ann is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Joe Smith; son, E. Joe Smith, Jr. of The Woodlands, Texas; daughter and son?in-law, Laura and Jim Howard of St. Louis, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Lee Sooter, Marjorie Sooter, and Tony Howard; brother and sister-in-law, Duncan and Cecelia Watwood and many other dear family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Wildwood-Village Mills United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. A private interment will be held in the Bland Cemetery in Orange County, Texas. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.
Friends who wish may direct memorial contributions to the 2200 Club of Wildwood, a volunteer medical unit or a charity of their choice.
