Bryan Coward

October 9, 1948 — June 1, 2025

Vidor, Texas

Herbert "Bryan" Coward passed away on June 1, 2025 at his residence in Vidor, Texas.

Bryan was born on October 9, 1948 in Morgan City, Lousiana to Julian Bryan Coward and LaJuan Tingle Coward.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl Nelson Coward of Vidor, and their beloved cat, Lil' Bit, who brought them great joy. He is also survived by his son, Jason Bryan Coward, and his wife, Elizabeth Williamson Coward, also of Vidor, whom he loved dearly. Other survivors include his brother, Athur "Peewee" Coward of Kinder, Louisiana and sister Kathy Coward Waltmon of Point Blank, Texas, along with several nieces and nephews.

Bryan was a 1967 graduate of Vidor High School where he played in the band and made and maintained several close friendships. Music continued to be a huge part of his life, as he would demonstrate by regularly attending various concerts, writing music, and regularly playing his guitar and serenading Cheryl, his best friend, often. Bryan was also an avid Beatles fan and could answer any question thrown his way. Another of his greatest pastimes was traveling the United States enjoying life and experiences while making precious memories with his loved ones.

Bryan was well known for his wit, humor, and personality. He never met a stranger. Even his doctors would be excited to see him on the schedule, since they knew he would make them laugh at even the silliest of things.

Bryan took his roll of husband, father, friend, and protector with extreme seriousness. One would be hard pressed to find a better example in any of these categories. Bryan was the love of Cheryl's life. They met in Norwalk, Ohio in 1975 and were married in Monroeville, Ohio on April 9, 1977. She would always end each evening with, "I love you more." His partnership with Cheryl could be used as a template for a happy, loving, and respectful relationship.

We will miss you, Bryan. But it's just, "Goodbye," for a little while.

If you'd like to pay your respects, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bryan's name to the Humane Society of Sotheast Texas.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX.
