Born in Sugarland, Texas, on November 8, 1931, he was the son of Lee Henry Bird and Jessie (Davis) Bird. Gerald served our Country in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. After serving four years in the Army, he then moved onto to work for Gulf Chemical as an Operator where he retired after 28 years. Outside of working and serving our country he had many other hobbies. He loved sitting on his front porch with company enjoying the evening as he waved to any and every one that passed by. If you knew him, you knew that he always had a joke to tell. Especially the ones about Boudreaux and Thibodeaux. Gerald loved to cook, fish, and player poker with his friends and family. There was nothing he was prouder of than his children, his grand-children, and his two sons-in-law. He loved his family deeply and will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Henry and Jessie Bird; his wife, Delores A. Bird; his brothers, Leo Bird, Buddy Bird and, Virgil Eugene Bird; his sisters, Bernadine Bradley, and Cat Floyd; his children, Gerald Lee Bird Jr., and Rodney Eugene Bird.

He is survived by his brother, Elmo Bird; daughters, Charlotte A. Thompson (Denzil) of Port Neches, Texas, Pamela J. Vaught (Ronnie) of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. His grandchildren; Jason Staton, Jenny Staton, Monica Villareal, Jared Bird, Jeremy Bird, Lindsey Bendy, Dustin Vaught, and Matthew Vaught. As well as 12 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his son-in-law Ronnie for taking such good care of their dad with the upmost love and respect.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make donations to the Southeast Texas Veteran’s Service Group, P.O. Box 12352 Beaumont, Tx 77726.
