Durwood Patrick “Doc” Wellman, 66, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on May 22, 2025, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Burial will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Beaumont.
Visitation will begin prior to the service at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Born in Beaumont, Texas, on June 9, 1958, he was the son of Frank Wellman and Mabel Wellman. He retired as a Supervisor for Facilities Maintenance at Lamar University, where he was known for his dedication and skill. Doc was a man who could fix anything and was good at everything he did. His selfless nature led him to be the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back. Friends and family will remember him as friendly and kind, always willing to lend a helping hand. His hobbies included deer hunting and fishing, activities he enjoyed in his leisure time. He also loved to listen to music, which brought him joy throughout his life. He took pride in being the DJ and soundman for the "Crossroads Band" and many other bands across Southeast Texas, a role that showcased his love for music and community. Doc will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and hard work will continue to inspire those left behind.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mabel Wellman; and son, Richard Wellman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Wellman; sons, Joseph Wellman and Alicein, Daniel Wellman and wife Janin; grandchildren, Troy Wellman, Zander Wellman, Richard Wellman, Nevaeh Wellman, and Zoie Wellman; brother, Stevie Wellman; and other loving family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Wellman, Daniel Wellman, Zander Wellman, Ed Schaeflli, Jerod Hughes, and Grover Williams. Honorary pallbearers are David Martin, Marc Riggillo, Buck Hebb, Shane Jenkins, Larry Ford.
