Dorothy Jean Calvert, 80, of Orange, Texas, passed away on July 6, 2025, in Orange.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025, at King Cemetery in Orange (Hartburg Community), with a visitation starting beforehand at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be Brad Bickham.

Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on July 15, 1944, she was the daughter of William Henry Smith, Jr. and Virginia Estella Alton Smith. Dorothy dedicated much of her life to caring for others. As a registered nurse, she devoted herself to her profession until the age of 78, exemplifying her unwavering commitment to helping those in need. Dorothy's early life was rooted in the Methodist Church, where she nurtured her values of compassion, community, and faith. Throughout her career, her passion for nursing shone brightly. She found joy and purpose in her work, touching the lives of countless patients and their families with her kindness and expertise. An ardent lover of arts and crafts, Dorothy expressed her creativity through various artistic mediums. Whether it was a handmade gift or a shared moment of creativity, Dorothy’s artistry left a lasting impression on her loved ones.

Family meant the world to Dorothy. She cherished the time spent with her relatives, drawing strength and joy from these connections. Her warm laugh and caring nature created a sense of belonging that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. As we remember Dorothy, we celebrate a life devoted to service, creativity, and love. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her, and she will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William H. Smith, Jr., and Virginia Smith; her daughter, Amy Foster Morgan; her granddaughter, McKinzey Morgan; her brother, Terry Smith; her mother-in-law, Faye Smith; and her brother-in-law, John Calvert.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lynn “Smokey” Calvert; son, Ronnie Foster, Jr.; grandchildren, Christian Tyler Cooper, Jackson Morgan, Gunner Morgan, Kaylie Foster Lively and husband, Zach, Dallas Foster, and Ryan Foster; great-grandchildren, Clayton Lively, and Preston Lively; one brother, Bob Smith; one sister, Barbara Smith. When she married Lynn, they blended their families and included his children, Robert Calvert, and Della Calvert; grandchildren, Justin Carr and wife, Carli, Kayla Calvert, Kylie Calvert, Clint Calvert, and Wyatt Hartford; great-grandchildren, Kylar and Krew Carr; sisters, Carol Griffin and Tami Covington and husband, Bob; and numerous other loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
