Chris Simmons

December 25, 1937 — February 18, 2026

Silsbee, Texas

Chris Simmons, a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, in Silsbee, Texas. Born on December 25, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas, Chris lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a firm commitment to his work and family.

Chris dedicated many years to serving as an Inspector for the Texas Department of Transportation, where he was known for his integrity and diligence. His career was marked by a commitment to the safety and well-being of others, reflecting his character both in the workplace and in his personal life.

He was a graduate of Jasper High School, class of 1956, and from there, Chris carried forward a great sense of humor and a spirit of camaraderie that made him a faithful friend and a beloved family member. Known lovingly as the "shepherd keeper," he found joy and fulfillment living on the farm with his son Marty and his wife Tina. His deep appreciation for life extended beyond work; he embraced hobbies such as fishing, hunting, cooking, and gardening, often sharing the result of his culinary endeavors with family and friends, particularly his famous brownies.

Chris was a devout Christian and a dedicated member of Pinecrest Baptist Church in Silsbee, where he found fellowship and joy among his church family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He also shared a close bond with his son, Marty and his daughter-in-law and favorite thorn in his side, Tina Terrell Simmons.

He is survived by his loving son Gary Martin "Marty" Simmons and wife, Tina; grandchildren, Korbin Byron Simmons, Chandler Lee Simmons, Christian Renee Hearn and her husband Kolby and their children Weston Wayne Hearn and River Reid Hearn, Brandy Penney and her husband Matthew and their children, and Krys Higgs; his numerous other great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Shirley Brown and Charlotte Papke Neal.

Chris was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy Joan Simmons; his parents, Robert and Annabell Simmons; his children, Lynn Simmons, Chris Wayne Simmons, and Patty Ann Meek; his grandson, Robert Simmons; and his siblings, Steve Simmons, Luther Simmons, Doris Trobough, and Robert "Bob" Simmons.
