Charles Edwin Tomlin was born on July 16,1933 to Jessie Dean Tomlin and Caron LaVerne (Lout) Tomlin in Shelbyville, Texas and passed away on June 15, 2023, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Father Ernie Carpio. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Groves.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 30, 2023, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
Charles graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1950 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a YNC 3rd Class during the Korean War. Charles hired on at Gulf Oil Refinery in 1958 and retired as a Senior Accounting Clerk with 31 years of service. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Gulf Employees Credit Union and as Chairman of the Gulf Oil Office Workers Committee, OCAW Local 4-23. Charles was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a true nature lover. He enjoyed nothing more than sitting on his swing in his back yard watching the squirrels, rabbits and birds for hours on end. He also loved sports. One of his proudest memories was of his years playing baseball for the Sand Point Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, Seattle, Washington. Charles was married to Jan (Theriot) Tomlin for 48 years. She and his children, Vicki Allred, Chuck Tomlin, Mark Tomlin and David Tomlin were the loves of his life. He was never happier than when they were all together. Charles has 10 grandchildren: Michael Allred, Lori Courtney, Christopher Allred, Amanda Hughes (Michael), Alicia Sukiennick (Justin), Mallory Tomlin, Katie Tomlin, Tyler Tomlin, Travis Tomlin, Dillon Tomlin, as well as 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Jessie Dean Tomlin, Mother, LaVerne (Tomlin) Lee, Step-Father, Hank Lee, Grandmother, Nancy Dora (Morrison) Lout, Brother, Kenneth Tomlin, Son, Charles Edwin Tomlin, Jr. (Chuck), and Grandson, Christopher Allred, Father-in-law, Rivers Theriot and Mother-in-law, Alice Theriot.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jan Tomlin, Daughter, Vicki Allred, Sons, Mark Tomlin (Jean-Marie), and David Tomlin, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister, Muriel (Boots) Barbosa (Richard), Stepbrothers, Rick Lee (Gwen), Gary Lee (Nadine), Sisters-in-law, Patricia Tomlin, Beverly Landrum, Sherry Parker, Karen Veillon, and Debbie Theriot. Brothers in law, Greig Theriot and Nathan Veillon and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greig Theriot, Ryan Theriot, Tyler Tomlin, Travis Tomlin, Steve Tomlin, and Ritchie Tomlin. Honorary pallbearers are Nathan Veillon and Jeff Tomlin.
Charles was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church in Bridge City, Texas for the past 40
years.
