Beulah “Mae” Cormier Dougharty Brown, 94, formerly of Orange & Buna, Texas passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025 at Matagorda Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bay City, Texas.

Born in Bell City, Louisiana on December 10, 1930, she was the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth Cormier. As a young lady working at the family cafe in Vinton, LA, Mae met and fell in love with one of the railroad men that would stop for lunch. She married Lawrence Dougharty in 1950. They settled in Orange where they raised 4 children (Larry, Paul, Tricia, & Joe) along with several breeds of show and farm animals. They even had one of the first crawfish businesses in Orange. Mae worked as a secretary in the Orange County Extension Office. There, she helped local farmers and ranchers as well as helping homemakers by teaching cooking, canning, and sewing. Her family grew up in the Catholic Church and participated in everything 4-H. After many wonderful years, Lawrence developed a heart condition and passed in 1985. After a few years, she met James “Marvin” Brown, who had lost his wife. They married in 1988 and Mae moved to Buna. The family grew by the addition of Marvin’s grown children Jan and Mike and loved them as her own. Together they tended cattle, grandchildren, & great grandchildren building a great life until his death in 2003. Buna remained her home where she served in church and the community as long as she was able. In her 90’s, she continued to be the driver for her friends. She loved to sew, shop, dance, eat out & travel. Mae lived as an example of her Catholic Faith- she taught her children that happiness is a decision and there is always a reason for a celebration!

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Edna Cormier and brother, Clarence Cormier and daughter-in-law, Debbie Dougharty.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Larry Dougharty (Angie) of Bay City, Paul Dougharty of Houston, Tricia Dougharty Hoffman (Ken) of Houston, and Joe Dougharty (Laura) of Orange, Jan Hillin (Bruce) of Orange, and Mike Brown (Terri) of Buna. She is also survived by grandchildren Diane Sparks (John), Benjamin Dougharty, Charlotte Sicking (Ryan), Lyndon Fullen, Brenna Heinrich, Alaina D’Auria (Joe), Elisa Moye (Jeff), Neil Dougharty (Kelli), Jason Duncan (Jessica), Jenny Kucera (Chuck), John Dougharty (Irene), Lindsey Floyd (Colby), Garlan Dougharty (Jessica), Mitchell (Megan), Jamie Denman (Scarlett), Beth Todd (Ashley), Bobby Joe Fielder (Taylor), Maegan Brown, Holly Brown, 44 great grandchildren and 2 more due in 2026 and 9 great-great grandchildren.
