Alva Jane Slaydon-Moore

August 23, 1941 — May 13, 2025

Orange, Texas

Alva Jane Slaydon-Moore, born on August 23, 1941, in DeRidder, Louisiana, passed away on May 13, 2025, at her home in Orange, Texas. Alva was a beloved member of her family, cherished as a wonderful mother and wife. She was affectionately known as "Memaw" or "Maw Maw" to her grandchildren, who she loved and treasured.

Alva enjoyed cooking, particularly delighting her family with her famous hamburgers. She spent her time pursuing hobbies such as quilting, sewing, and dancing. In her younger years, she took joy in ceramics and had a passion for collecting angels, jewelry, and purses.

A devoted member of Bridge City First Assembly of God, Alva held deep faith and was known for being a walking, talking, living Christian. Alva loved unconditionally and had a strong work ethic throughout her entire life. When she was younger, she worked with her mother building fences, driving transport and doing carpentry. Together with her beloved husband, she helped to build barns, garages, and workshops. Never afraid to put in a hard days work laying concrete, roofing, painting, or hanging drywall, she did it all! She was five women in one, while still being able to take care of her precious family.

She is survived by her husband of over 69 years, William "Bill" Moore, Sr.; her children, Joseph Earl Moore and wife Brenda Louise, George Melvin Moore and wife Mary Linda, Barbara Ann Granger-Moore and previous husband Glenn, and William Earl Moore, Jr. and wife Kim. Alva is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Joseph Moore and wife Christine, Andrew Madison Moore and wife Amy, Laura Nacole Jones and husband Joshua, Brian Elliot Granger and wife Autumn, Brandon Glenn Granger and wife Ana, Glenn Elliot Granger, Jr. and wife Daniela, Bree Rene Thibodeaux and husband Chris, and Ryke Allen Moore; as well as 21 great-grandchildren.

Alva was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Franklin Slaydon and Jewell (Cooley) Clemont; her son, Michael John Moore; and her granddaughter, Brittany Rene Moore.
