William Brian Cannon

September 10, 1961 — October 25, 2018

William Brian Cannon, age 57, passed away from his earthly life to his heavenly home on October 25, 2018.

A memorial service will be held for Brian at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation beginning at 1:30pm, Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Claybar Kelley Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Stall, of Forest Park United Methodist Church.

Brian was born to William Cannon and Nancy Watson Cannon, on September 10, 1961. In the wake of Hurricane Carla, he arrived prematurely, a tiny little baby, barely weighing 5 pounds. He grew into a sweet, funny little fellow, constantly busy and into various kinds of mischief. He ate a glass Christmas ball, drank mosquito repellant, and jumped into the deep end of various swimming pools even though he couldn’t swim. Our father always rescued him by jumping in after Brian, usually fully clothed. Our mother insisted that Brian alone was responsible for turning her auburn hair gray.

Brian became our gentle giant, our big teddy bear. He loved people and people loved him. Innumerable people claimed they shopped at Kroger just to visit with him as he carried out their groceries. Mom and Dad were devoted to Brian. In his 57 years, they rarely left him behind. Dinners out, day trips and vacations were usually centered around Brian, often including one of his buddies.

Brian was dearly loved by all his family. His grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephew all have a special place in their hearts just for Brian. Children were always a favorite of his. He always delighted in his nieces and nephews, Haley, Grayson and Parker. Brain was thrilled when he also got to be a great-uncle to three little darling girls.

Brian graduated from Forest Park High School in 1979. He retired from Kroger after 30 years of loyal customer service. He was a client of Spindletop MHMR for most of his life. He loved going there to be with his friends at the Charm Class, He was very fond of the staff who helped guide him over the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Cannon.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Nancy Cannon, of Beaumont; sister, Charlene Meek and husband Stephen, of Beaumont; nieces and nephews, Haley Meek Strahan and husband Ben, of Beaumont, Grayson Meek, of Beaumont, and Parker Meek, of Hinsdale, MT; great-nieces, Phoebe, Susannah, and Genevieve Strahan; aunts and uncles, Carolyn and Nathan Owers, of Beaumont and Clyde and Barbara Cannon, of College Station; special friend, Gentry Lovett, of Beaumont; lifelong best friend, Joe Hoffpauir, of Beaumont; and numerous cousins and other friends and family.
