Sidney Cashwell Hamilton, Jr.

Sidney Cashwell Hamilton Jr., 93, of Bridge City, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on September 12th, 2020, at Forever Young Home LLC in Groves, Texas.

Sidney was born on a farm in Salisbury, North Carolina, on July 7th, 1927 to Sidney Cashwell Hamilton, Sr. and Thelma Hamilton May, and shared his early years with his five brothers and sisters. At age 17 he joined the Navy and served in World War II; he was a decorated veteran and his pride in serving was a sentiment he carried throughout his life. Sidney was a gifted athlete; during his service he became the U.S. Navy Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion, and after his service he played semi-professional baseball in North Carolina. Upon moving to Texas, he went on to be the Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in Beaumont, Texas. Sidney was employed in Texas with DuPont SRW for 38 years.

Sidney was an avid outdoorsman. He was a skilled fisherman, hunter, marksman, and archer who ventured as far as Canada on excursions with his close friends and family. When he wasn’t exploring the great outdoors, he spent his time bowling and golfing, but in his later years he was lovingly and wholeheartedly dedicated to the role of “Paw Paw” to his granddaughter, Madison. He never missed a softball or volleyball game and made sure to record every moment with his video camera. Sidney was beloved as a selfless brother, father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was never without a broad smile, chuckle, twinkle in his eye, and peppermint in his front shirt pocket to share.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Hamilton; son Milton Steven Hamilton; brother, Bill Hamilton; brother, Irving Hamilton; and sister, Marie Haney.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Fay Hamilton; daughter, Regina Caraway; son-in-law, Bryan Caraway; granddaughter, Madison Caraway; sisters, Peggy Pegram and Shirley Kedozria; sister-in-law, Connie Lemaire; brother-in-law, Patrick Lemaire; niece Christine Lemaire; sister-in-law, Janet Spell; and nephew Michael Chad Spell and his wife Amanda Spell, along with great-niece and nephew Sydney Spell and Jacob Spell.

Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m., the 15th of September 2020 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Funeral services will be held thereafter at 2:00 p.m., the 15th of September 2020 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Ryan Chandler of Trinity Baptist Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Caraway, Earl Boudreaux, Patrick Lemaire, Dallas Rector, Michael Spell, and Sam Wigington.
