Rodney Charles Barrett, 76, of Orange, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Claybar Funeral Home, 504 5th Street, Orange, Texas with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the service which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bridge City, Texas.

Born in Brenham, Texas and raised in Houston, Texas, Rodney was the son of Charlie Barrett and Minnie Pearl Barrett Bottoms, both who predeceased him. He played football and graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston, Texas and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Airforce. Rodney married his wife Eunice Barrett and made his home in Orange, Texas where they celebrated 30 years of marriage in March 2020. Rodney had one daughter, Tina Marie Barrett, and a brother, Garland Ray Barrett, both who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, her children, Sherri Fruge’ (Jeff) and Brent Mendoza (Cindy), a sister, Connie Lutes and nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Rodney was truly one of a kind. He loved children and was the best PawPaw to Alexis Logan, Dylan Logan, Lauren Peet, Joel Fruge, Jessica Hagler, Kyle Mendoza and seven great grandchildren.

Rodney Barrett never met a stranger and was a natural as a business and marketing professional. He worked as the general manager for 20+ years for Ritter Forest Products in Nederland, Texas. He loved the beach, playing golf and had many close friends, in particular, Pam Stelly and her family and others from his association with those at the Sunset Grove Country Club. Rodney and Eunice were founding members of the Mardi Gras krewe, Creole Krewe, which began at Crystal Beach and they were instrumental with others in establishing Mardi Gras festivities in Orange. Rodney was an avid LSU Tiger football fan and loved college football. Rodney also loved his Church family at First United Methodist Church of Orange.

Pallbearers are Brent Mendoza, Jeff Fruge’, Kyle Mendoza, Joel Fruge’, Daniel Peet and Carson Peet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Orange.
