Robert "Don" Bailey

Robert “Don” Bailey, 85, of Orange, Texas passed away on June 5, 2022, at Brookdale Dowlen Oaks in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2022, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Tommy Anthony. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Cemetery in Orange.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Delia, Texas, on January 16, 1937, he was the son of Fred Bailey and Minnie Mae (Spruiell) Bailey. Don worked for many years as a teacher for West Orange-Cove ISD. He was a man of God and faithful member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher. Don found great joy in working on clocks and antiques. Many people will remember him as the “Clock Man.” He also enjoyed tending to his garden, and growing a variety of vegetables and fruit trees. When he wasn’t working with his hands, Don could be found watching Wheel of Fortune or solving sodoku puzzles. Most importantly, Don was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Julia Imogene Bailey; his son, Bobby Bailey; and his brother, Billy Bailey.

He is survived by his loving children, Wendell Bailey and wife Rosemary of Beaumont, Gary Bailey of Carrollton, and Cindy Helm and husband Roy of Orange; his grandchildren, Kevin Bailey and wife Crystal, Ashley Bailey and husband Brooks, Kayla Bartholamew and husband Russ, Amber Hicks and husband Chris, and Camrie Helm; and great-grandchildren, Kaydence Bailey, Cannon Bailey, Kenley Bailey, Jaxson Bartholamew, Mason Bartholamew, Levi Hicks, and Emma Hicks; as well as many other dear family members and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Helm, Gary Bailey, Russ Bartholamew, Chris Hicks, and Kevin Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are Jaxson Bartholamew, Levi Hicks, and Mason Bartholamew.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to McDonald Memorial Baptist Church, 104 Broad Street, West Orange, Texas 77630, or to a charity of your choice.
