Rebecca Ann Talbert Brookshier

February 27, 1947 — September 12, 2021

Rebecca Ann Talbert Brookshier, left this earth on Sunday, September 12th at 6:10 p.m. to be greeted at Heaven’s gates by Jesus, her Momma, Daddy, Brothers and all of her loved ones that have gone on before her. What a celebration that must have been! She’s longed to be with them for some time now.

Becky was born on February 27, 1947 to Charles Franklin Talbert, Sr. and Lois Jeanette (Hodge) Talbert.

Our Mom was an amazing Momma, who loved her 3 girls fiercely. She raised us on her own and although she was our rock, she called us her saving grace. Her biggest fans on this earth are her grandbabies, Kaylee, Alyssa, Trey, and Jillian. Kaylee moved Mom (Grammy) to Nacogdoches to be close to her; Alyssa and Mom (Gram) were in a mystery book club together and enjoyed the entertainment and conversation that the books brought them. Her only Grandson Trey is serving our country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marines, but he has never been too tough to call his “Bean” and tell her he loved her. Jillian is a senior in high school and loved doing makeup with her every chance she had. Her great-grandbabies Kaitlyn, Brooklyn, Allyson and Mackenzie Kay, who loved going to play at “Bammy’s house” and to have her over for dinner on red beans and rice nights (her favorite) miss her terribly already, but they know they will see her again in Heaven one day. Life without her will never be the same. Family was the most important thing to Momma, she remembered everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, and always made sure to call you on your birthday to sing to you. If anyone in the family needed to know a date they knew to call Becky; she would know.

She worked for many years as a Switchboard Operator at Orange Memorial Hospital where she committeed to her memory every extension, cell phone, beeper and home number of every doctor on staff. She had great recall for numbers. If someone was needed, Momma could find them. She also worked at Park Place and after her retirement, one of the doctors commented that he wished she would come back to work because she was the best operator they’d ever had. Momma was loved by so many.

She was preceded in death by father, Charles Talbert, Sr.; mother, Lois Hodge Talbert; brothers, Charles Franklin Talbert, Jr., Lannie Ranse Talbert (Barbara), and Henry Gail Talbert (Shirley); brother-in-law, Oscar Raymond Smith, Sr.; step-brothers, Frank Ellis Arthur and Archie Conley; step-mother, Mary Arthur Talbert; and niece, Amanda Forsythe.

Momma is survived her daughters, Lois Denise Atkinson, Sherry Manke and husband Matthew and Jill Smith and husband Darron; grandchildren, Kaylee Estes (Dalton), Alyssa Rose (Warren), Trey Breaux, and Jillian Gundy; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Charlene Talbert Smith; step-sisters, Kathy Murray (Greg) and Phyllis Martin; brothers, John Dalton Talbert (Imelda), Thomas Arlee Talbert (Christie); step-brothers, Belton Arthur (Kandy) and Fred Conley; and by a host of nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, those include but are not limited to: Oscar Raymond Smith, Jr. (Kathy), David W. Smith, Sr. (Roberta), Suzanne Smith Schatzle (Erich), Steven A. Smith, Daniel Tabert, Kevin Talbert (Kelly), Stacy Talbert Curtis (Randy), Henry Gail Talbert, Jr. (Laura), Jennifer Chakine (Randy), Nan Talbert Leger (Ross), Michael Thomas Talbert, and Danielle Antoinette Talbert.
