Peggy Church, 89, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on September 19, 2019, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Bridge City with Reverend Keith Royal officiating. The celebration will continue in the Family Life Center next door.

Born in Huntington, Texas, on May 12, 1930, she was the daughter of Ransey Nerren and Miley (Trahan) Nerren. Peggy retired from nursing after 28 loyal years with Orange Memorial Hospital. She was a former member of Winfree Baptist Church and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Bridge City. She was a past President of the Lioness Club, a former Sunday School teacher for young adults, and was a member of WMU of First Baptist Church in Bridge City. Peggy was voted Woman of the Year in 1973 by the Women’s and Professional Club of Bridge City. She was a wonderful woman who was always quick to laugh and quick to forgive. Peggy was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and caregiver to many. She was a very giving woman and will continue giving to others through the selfless donation of her body to science for medical research.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ransey and Miley Nerren; her husband of 50 years, Earl Church; son, Mike Church; grandson, Danean Denison; brother, Henry Nerren; and sisters, Bobbie Hawthorne and Patricia Weaver

Peggy is survived by her children, Cyndy Denison, of Silsbee, Arlene Church, of Bridge City, Randall Church and wife Judith, of Bridge City, and Susan Lavergne, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Bryan Denison, Sarah Gutierrez, Christine Church, Christopher Church, Nic Lavergne, John Church, Natalie Lavergne, and Taylor Bendy; great-grandchildren, Tres´ Gutierrez, Blake Denison, Brooke Denison, Brenna Gutierrez, Kaylianne Church, Micah Denison, Grayson Gutierrez, Grayland Lavergne, Kyra Church, Nathan Lavergne, Cheyenne Bendy, and Dakota Bendy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Peggy’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to Southeast Texas Hospice for their patience, understanding, respect, loving care, and assistance of Ms. Church and her family. The family would also like to thank Judice’s Cajun Café in Bridge City for donating and delivering some of their fantastic food to them as they cared for their mother.
